Sleeping Back Into Yourself: A Week Of Restful Nights

With Mark Rowland

This seven-day course offers a gentle, reflective approach to sleep, inviting you to soften your relationship with rest rather than trying to control it. Through daily teachings and guided sleep meditations, you’ll explore how sleep naturally arises when pressure eases and understanding deepens. Each session combines simple philosophical reflections with long, soothing practices designed to help the body settle, the mind loosen its grip, and awareness become more spacious. Some nights you may fall asleep quickly, other nights you may simply rest more deeply while awake, and both experiences are welcomed here. This course is not about perfect sleep, but about creating the inner conditions where rest can return in its own time. Over seven days, you’ll develop a kinder, more trusting relationship with sleep that you can return to long after the course has ended.

Meet your Teacher

Mark Rowland is a meditation guide and sound practitioner based in the UK. His work is shaped by lived experience, including navigating mental health challenges and neurodivergence, which led him to discover meditation and sound as grounding, stabilising practices. Mark’s teaching style is gentle, accessible, and lightly philosophical, focusing on helping people soften their inner experience rather than trying to change it. His meditations often explore rest, presence, and awareness in a way that feels human, reassuring, and unforced. Through his work on Insight Timer and in live sessions, Mark creates spaces where listeners are encouraged to meet themselves with kindness, especially during moments of restlessness, fatigue, or overwhelm. This course reflects his belief that sleep is not something to achieve, but something that naturally returns when we allow ourselves to settle.

Lesson 1

Remembering How Sleep Works

In this opening session, you are invited to gently reconsider your relationship with sleep. Rather than trying to improve or control it, today’s reflection explores how sleep already knows how to arrive when pressure eases. Through simple teaching and a long, soothing meditation, you’ll begin to soften the habits of effort and expectation that often follow us into the night. This session sets the tone for the week ahead, creating a safe and unhurried space where rest can unfold naturally, in its own time.

Lesson 2

Making Space For The Busy Mind

Tonight’s session explores the activity of the mind at night, not as a problem to solve, but as a natural part of unwinding. Through gentle reflection and a long, settling meditation, you’ll learn how to relate to thoughts with less involvement and more ease. Rather than trying to quiet the mind, this session helps you make space around it, allowing mental activity to soften on its own as the body settles into rest.

Lesson 3

Letting The Body Sink

Tonight’s session gently shifts attention from the mind into the body, exploring how rest deepens when the body feels fully supported. Through a slow, grounding reflection and a long settling meditation, you’ll be invited to let go of subtle holding and allow gravity to do more of the work. This practice helps the body soften at its own pace, creating the conditions where sleep often arrives naturally.

Lesson 4

Meeting The Night Awake

This session gently reframes waking during the night, inviting you to meet these moments with less concern and more ease. Through simple reflection and a soothing meditation, you’ll explore how wakefulness can be part of rest rather than a sign that something has gone wrong. Tonight offers a softer way to be with the night, whether sleep comes quickly or slowly.

Lesson 5

Setting The Day Down

Tonight’s session focuses on gently releasing the day before sleep. Rather than reviewing or resolving what has happened, you’ll be invited to set the day down exactly as it is. Through calm reflection and a long, settling meditation, this practice helps the mind and body recognise that the work of the day is complete, allowing rest to unfold without carrying unfinished moments into the night.

Lesson 6

Trusting The Night

Tonight’s session explores trust as a quiet bodily experience rather than a mental decision. Through gentle reflection and a long, easing meditation, you’ll be invited to notice how the body already understands rest and rhythm. This practice supports a growing sense of confidence in the night, allowing sleep to arrive in its own way, without monitoring or pressure.

Lesson 7

Sleep As A Relationship

This final session invites you to relate to sleep not as something to achieve each night, but as an ongoing relationship shaped by kindness and trust. Through quiet reflection and a long, open-ended sleep meditation, you’ll be guided into a way of resting that can be returned to again and again. This practice is designed to meet you exactly where you are, whether sleep comes quickly or slowly, and to support a softer, more sustainable connection with rest.
