
Well Being At A Special Place
This meditation is adapted from a traditional Buddhist approach for the cultivation of insight, serenity and or one of the four heart qualities: benevolence, compassion, appreciative joy and equanimity.
Transcript
Colour-vating wellbeing by visiting your special place.
Ensure that you're at ease with your posture and your body is free from constriction and discomfort.
Set the intention that for the next 10 to 15 minutes you'll practise contemplating themes of wellbeing,
Peace and happiness by using creative imagination.
Remember if feelings of wellbeing,
Peace and happiness do not arise,
Not to struggle or judge yourself harshly.
Rather,
Accept the natural ebbs and flows of the mind and allow yourself to be fully present with whatever arises with a quality of accepting awareness.
Make the resolve for the period of this exercise you'll put aside hankering after things not here or grief about things that you've done or that you can't change.
As much as possible,
Seclude yourself from concerns about the world and future goals or anything other than being here now and bring your intention to colour-vating happiness and peace.
As much as possible,
Find a place that is away from busy circumstances where you can't be disturbed.
Bring your awareness to relaxing your body and feeling comfortable.
Perhaps you can scan for tension and let it go.
Letting go of tension.
Be comfortable.
Scanning for tension and letting it go.
Let yourself be comfortable.
So now,
Without moving your actual body,
Imagine that you stand up and walk to the door or the room you're in.
As you move to the door and open this door,
You sense the quietude and peacefulness that lies through the door.
Deciding to move through the door,
You step into this energy and before you is a path through a forest.
The forest is your favourite forest and the path crosses a stream and invites you to move through it.
You know that the path leads to a place that is special and healing for you.
And as you walk mindfully through this forest,
Your senses open to everything.
You can notice the details of the forest walk.
You can smell the smells,
Hear the sounds and feel the fresh and clean air.
As you stroll through this forest,
It feels as if all problems and concerns are falling away.
By breathing present in this forest and letting the forest energy heal you,
You drop all that brings you grief and sorrow.
The forest energy seems to transform whatever distress you may have had to a sense of warm acceptance and peace.
Not only does your heart respond but your body also responds by feeling relaxed.
Your chest seems to open and your body feels free from all energetic blocks.
Step by step the opening becomes more and more freeing.
As you walk through the path you can see an opening ahead and begin to smell and hear the ocean.
So slowly and mindfully you walk up over the rise onto the beach and before you you can see the turquoise blue ocean and clean and soft golden sand.
The sky is clear blue with just a few wispy clouds on the horizon.
And as you walk mindfully you can feel a gentle breeze touching your skin like a gentle massage.
The breeze and the sand and the sunshine are just at a temperature that it feels perfect for you.
You can hear the sounds of the waves as they meet the shore providing nature's music as background to the experience.
The sounds of gulls are also off in the distance reminding you to be present.
Every step you make whatever problems that were entangling you previously sent farther and farther away.
Every step you take the sense of quietude and peacefulness becomes deeper and deeper.
It is a deep peace a peace that is free from anguish and its causes.
You sit and lie down on the soft sand and allow the peacefulness and well-being to spread throughout your whole body.
All the tension of previous worries and concerns seem to disappear and your body becomes completely relaxed.
Your feet relax.
Your legs relax.
Your buttocks and hips relax.
Your torso relaxes.
Your breathing becomes deep and natural.
Your shoulders,
Neck and face and arms completely relax.
Every fibre of every muscle entangles and as it does the calm yet vibrant life energy touches every cell of your body.
As you open awareness to this present moment a calm peacefulness seems to evade your being.
Serenity is the state of your heart.
Your heart is filled with serenity peace and calm.
Anchored in awareness that serenity and vitality heal you.
Be content to allow this serenity calm and peacefulness be the state of your body and your heart.
Simply rest in the state of being and let it pervade every cell of your body and every part of your being.
When your attention seems to drift away remember what you are doing without struggle bring it back to the qualities of peacefulness and calm.
Keep peacefulness.
When you're ready enjoy the serenity and tranquility tea in your body.
Feeling filled with healing energy,
Revitalised,
Refreshed and renewed.
As you realize it is now time to return back along the path.
As you stand and walk,
You also realize that you can take this sense of freedom from anguish back with you.
As you walk back,
Away from the beach,
You meet the forest path.
You walk along the path until you see the door from where you came ahead of you.
As you see the door,
There is a sense of joy because the freedom that you accessed is in your heart.
Knowing that presence can transform all problems,
Step back through the door to your seat and sit back in the place from where you came.
Now however,
You carry a sense of peacefulness within your heart.
When you are ready and the time is right for you,
Move your actual fingers and toes.
Have a little stretch and open your eyes and get ready to go about your daily activities with a renewed sense of peace,
Vitality,
Purpose,
Presence and simple happiness.
