Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott.
I'm in the village in our wildflower meadow.
It's a tiny little meadow about a third of an acre and it's looking rather scruffy at this time of year.
I mean everything looks scruffy at this time of year.
The hedgerows are looking scruffy and the grass is here tall and yellow seed heads.
Things are starting to droop and look a bit dried out but I still love it.
There's a kind of wildness about it.
And all around me is the short grass of the lawns,
Which are the formal gardens it's called.
And these lawns are all yellow and browny because we've had a lot of rain.
And there's something rather magical about this sort of wildflower meadow as it ripples in this evening breeze.
And it's quite cool actually at the minute.
We've had a grey day,
A bit of mist,
Tiny bit of rain.
We desperately need more rain.
But it's been really good just to feel that sense of coolness in the air,
Something we have missed over recent days.
And today's reflection is something that's been prompted by some of the comments I've been reading,
And I love getting your reflections and comments,
So please do keep asking questions,
Do keep commenting.
One of the things that I find is really helpful to understand,
And this is something that's come through in some of the comments,
Is the difference between agitated,
Unsettled thought and intuitive wisdom.
How do you tell the difference?
I've probably spent the last 10 years really being curious about this.
So it's something I can tell you what it's like for me.
And I would love to know what resonates for you and whether you've got a different system that you use to detect your intuitive wisdom.
But for me,
My intuitive wisdom is something that has a sense of being grounded and true.
I know,
I know when my wisdom is speaking.
If I've got to question is this wisdom or not,
Chances are it's not,
And that's fine.
But if I absolutely just feel it,
And it's a gentle,
Often it's like a gentle knowing,
Then I know I can trust it.
My unsettled thoughts and thinking,
On the other hand,
Come with unsettled feelings.
So when I am feeling guilty,
That means I'm in guilty thoughts,
Thought storms when I'm feeling overwhelmed.
I'm in overwhelmed thought storms when I'm feeling frustrated.
I'm in frustrated thought storms when I'm in anxiety.
Then I'm in anxious thought storms.
So my feelings,
Anxiety,
Guilt,
Frustration,
They just let me know what thought storm is going through my mind at any one moment.
And I just find it really helpful to use my feelings like this.
So I get a sense of being able to discern and weigh up what's going on through my feelings.
That's one way it's really helpful.
So that sense of groundedness,
Of knowing,
That's the best way I can put it,
That I know is coming from a place of wisdom.
A sense of insecurity,
Uncertainty,
I know that's coming from my ego thoughts.
It's just useful to know the difference.
And the other thing I find really helpful is that even when I'm in unsettled thoughts or feelings or in a thought storm or feeling frustration or anger or feeling unsettled,
Even though I might be in the midst of that thought storm,
That wisdom is still there.
It's like a quiet voice.
And again,
It's a little bit of knowing.
I often,
My mind will go into a bit of a spin trying to talk it down.
But it's the bit that has me,
For example,
If I've received an email or a text that I feel is a bit unfair or is a bit of a dig,
Then my intuitive wisdom is the bit of me that says,
Pause before you write a response.
Does that make sense?
It kind of tunes in and all of me is wanting to be righteous and to tell somebody what I think of them and how unfair they are,
But there's a piece of me,
A tiny piece of me,
That kind of says,
Just pause,
Take a breath,
Don't do it yet.
And invariably,
With my unsettled thoughts and thinking and frustrations,
When they settle down,
I am 100% of the time grateful that I listened in to that quieter voice of wisdom.
So that's what we're looking at today and I'd just be curious to know how you detect the difference between your wisdom and your thinking and thoughts.
And do you have any examples?
Because there will be lots of examples from your life when you listen to wisdom and you trusted it to take the next step.
Let me know your reflections and don't forget to join me again tomorrow for another five minutes in nature.
