Hello,

My name is Liz Scott and you join me up here on Dartmoor,

Which is a national park in the southwest of England,

And I've come out today to take you on a walk and to share something with you which for me has had the most profound impact on my life.

So today I am sharing what I call the inner compass.

It's about helping you get in touch with your inner compass,

Helping you understand what that means and starting you on the first step of a journey which offers freedom,

Nourishment,

Joy,

Love and gratitude.

So I hope you'll join me on this walk across Dartmoor and enjoy learning what it is to find out more about your inner compass.

And if you hear some panting in the background or shaking in the background of a dog that's because I've got my dog with me as well and we're both out walking on Dartmoor today.

So join me and let me take you on one of my favorite little walks and we'll explore what is the inner compass,

How can I find it and what difference will that make in my life.

You can probably hear that underfoot it's quite dry.

The bracken as we call it here,

Which is the ferns that cover the moor in a luscious green during the summer,

Well they die back over the winter and autumn and we're in January at the moment and they are very crispy and crunchy to walk through and walk across.

And we've walked up through a field that sometimes has sheep in it but today is sheep free and we've climbed up and up and I've just paused beside a rock now.

I'm sitting on the ground.

I've got something to sit on to keep my self dry and I'm looking out towards the South Hams and the South Hams is a very lush arable part of the UK.

I'm up on Dartmoor which is high up looking down across pasture land and hedgerows and I can see mile after mile of green grass all the way out to the sea.

It's a beautiful day.

The sun is shining and I'm sitting in this direction facing south because I occasionally close my eyes and feel the warmth of the sunshine on my face and I knew deep inside me today the importance of getting out and feeling the sunshine on my skin.

We have had week after week of gales and rain and low cloud.

The weather has been extremely stormy and it's meant that most days I've gone out walking quickly and I've put my waterproofs on and I've hurried back home to get dry but today I felt this yearning ache within me.

If it was a voice it would be saying go outside,

Go outside,

Go and feel the sun on your face and I listened to that voice.

I listened to that feeling and that's why I brought you up with me on to Dartmoor because when I talk about the inner compass I'm talking about listening within.

Listening to that voice within that draws us towards nourishment,

That draws us towards health.

It's often a quiet voice,

It's often a quiet feeling but I want you or my invitation today is for you to start to notice that within you.

So right now I'm listening into my inner compass and the sun in this wintry landscape is shining down on me and I can actually feel its warmth and as I close my eyes I can just bathe in that beautiful sunlight.

It's as though I'm having a drink after feeling so thirsty for so long.

I haven't seen the sun like this for weeks.

It is an absolute joy and pleasure and everything in my being is letting me know I am in exactly the right place and experiencing exactly the right thing and that is what I mean by listening to your inner compass.

Listen within.

Listen to that inner knowing.

Listen to that voice within you that is nudging you,

Is encouraging you,

Is drawing you in a direction.

It won't be loud.

Your inner compass isn't loud but you can absolutely trust it.

So listen within.

Explore and notice what that inner compass might mean for you.

It's giving you good information every day,

Every step of the way,

Every minute in life.

You are never ever separated from your inner compass and it will always always point you in the right direction.

In a direction of travel that you can trust and there is nothing like walking through life and knowing you can trust this inner wisdom,

This inner guidance system.

So my invitation to you is see if you can see that within yourself.

Get a sense of what it feels like to you.

Your inner compass might have turned up in a way that for example maybe one day you were feeling angry with someone or you felt frustrated and you were going to shout at them but something stopped you from shouting at them.

That something,

That something is your inner compass.

Or maybe you were thinking about a friend and you wondered how your friend was and you felt compelled to pick up the phone and dial their number and just check in on them or send them a text letting them know that you were thinking of them.

That nudge that had you make the phone call or send the text,

That is your inner compass.

And in this space right in this minute as I sit with you on Dartmoor and I feel the warmth of the Sun I can feel my inner compass inviting me to lift my face up to that Sun and drink in its warmth on this January day.

We're going to continue my walk and we're going to go through a gate and down to the stream and then I want to tell you a little bit more about how you can notice your own inner compass and how you can trust your inner compass in every single situation in your life.

Well you can probably hear it's really wet underfoot,

Really splodgy and I'm just coming up to the stream which is usually quite a small stream that runs off the moor but today very full and I can see as I approach it that the stepping stones that usually are uncovered are completely covered over by water but I got my Wellington boots on so I'm going to paddle across see you on the other side and talk a bit more about your inner compass and how you can touch base with it.

I managed to cross the stream without falling in and I've stopped again nearing home now I can just see the tops of the houses of the village that I live in as I descend off the hill and Dartmoor back towards home and it reminds me of a time when I came up onto Dartmoor when the mist was low.

Now Dartmoor is on the southwest edge of the UK if you imagine a map of England is like a foot that points out into the Atlantic Ocean and that's where I live and the prevailing weather is of the very wet windy southwesterly winds that bring the rain and clouds off of the Atlantic up onto the moors and then often we get a lot of rain here and a lot of wind and we also are susceptible to getting mists low clouds that scud along the ground covering Dartmoor in a mist and I remember one day I I wanted to learn more about trusting a compass now I'm talking about a conventional compass not one that's plugged into sat navs or that you need a phone to charge up to trust it a good old-fashioned compass that points north and I remember on this one occasion the mists came down and I deliberately decided to go up onto Dartmoor walk into the mist and then trust my compass to find my way home I don't know if you've ever walked in a mist but as soon as you take your foot off the trusted footpath that you know everything becomes very bewildering and confusing it's impossible to judge distance you can't see regular landmarks time seems to take on a different dimension and you have no idea where you've walked or how far you've walked or where you are being in a mist for me is very similar to being lost in unsettled thinking and worry and anxiety and overwhelm when the mists of overwhelm descend on me I often feel very lost and that is why trusting a compass is so important because when I came up onto Dartmoor and I stepped into that mist off my trusted path all I had was the compass and I knew I had to trust that it would always point north and what that meant is that wherever I was I knew which direction north was in and because I knew where north was I knew where south was and south was a direction of travel I needed to take to get off the moors and I had to trust it every step of the way sometimes my mind would go this is a mistake we're in the wrong place we shouldn't be here but I would look at my compass and I would know and trust that it was pointing in the right direction I found my way off the moor very slowly one step at a time checking the compass every few feet of the way and I found myself back at home really grateful that I knew I could trust the compass if ever I got lost on the moors and that's why it's so important for you to trust and get in touch with your inner compass and to learn what your inner compass is pointing you in the direction of because we we seem to live our lives well I don't know about you but for me I I've often in the past lived my life imagining it needed to be a certain way and trying to find a track or trail that would take me to this imagined goal of what life should be like as far as I can tell life doesn't work like that it's much more about me looking within checking within checking my inner compass checking my direction of travel and more often than not the compass doesn't tell me the destination it doesn't tell me where I'm going or what it will look like when I get there the compass only tells me one thing it tells me where north is and my inner compass only tells me one thing it tells me the direction of travel to take I started this walk in beautiful sunshine and blue skies and a grey cloud now is covering the Sun and there are spits of rain coming down and it's cooled considerably and I know it's time to go home for me now but I also know it was absolutely right for me to come up onto the moors and drink in that sunshine I knew it was absolutely right for me to bring you on this walk with me to help you start to get a feel for your inner compass what it might feel like and to start trusting and knowing that you are okay deep deep within in the essence of your being you are okay all will be well and your compass will point you in the direction for you to travel in you might not know the whole journey but you will always know the next step so I trust that you will start your journey with your inner compass and learn what it is like to walk through life knowing that you can never ever be lost

Your talk centered on what I know to be true - Taking time to listen in today's fast pace is hard for me to do but so extremely vital for my mental and physical health.

A beautiful way to illustrate the reconnection to or discovery of our inner compass. Thank you for sharing this talk that awoke my inner compass so that it is in the forefront of the worries that had buried it. I felt a relief to have it back to where it belongs and knowing it will guide me in the right direction. Namaste...πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ˜ŒπŸ•ŠοΈ

This was such a wonderful experience. I really was on your walk with you. I listen to my inner compass all the time. I’ve been extremely busy with a move lately and have had to put off doing what my heart tells me. It’s is time to really listen again and take action. This was so inspiring! Thank you πŸ™πŸ» πŸ’•

I loved this talk by Liz about listening to your inner compass. I listened to it whilst walking this morning and could imagine Liz with her dog walking on Dartmoor. I can think of many times when I've both listened to and ignored my inner compass - and that my inner compass has always been right. When I'm caught up in thinking it can be easy to dismiss those nudges it gives us - I'm keen to be present more and listen to it. Thank you for this talk Liz - I will listen to it again.

That was beautiful! I felt that strong inner compass recently, calling me to get down on my yoga mat where I had not been for quite some time. The nourishment I received there was so profound. I also really loved your metaphor of the mist in life. Such an uncomfortable place to be for me but trusting that I’ll be guided in the right direction is powerful. Thank you πŸ™Œ

This is so beautiful. I loved the style of this , being taken on a lovely walk really helped me to sink into the wise words being shared. I got a real sense of where Liz was , the fact that she was actually there added to the authenticity and I could feel my nervous system settle as a I listened. Thank goodness we all have an inner compass to lead us 'home' .
