Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott and you find me sheltering under a beech tree from a passing rain shower.
You might hear the patter of the rain on the canopy above my head.
I know it's passing,
I can see blue sky coming my way and it just feels as though if I just stay sheltered for another few minutes I should be able to strike out again on my morning walk and you know the truth is I just tried to record a piece and I was recording something and partway through it I just thought ah this isn't working,
I'm not clear,
I'm not articulating what I want to say and I switched off the recorder and just looked up into the I'm actually in a gateway of a field and I looked up into the field sort of having a little bit of a rant at myself oh you're not very good at this and all of those stupid things that we tell ourselves at times and as I was looking up into the field I suddenly saw these two deer moving quickly towards me like cantering towards me and it looked like they were heading I stayed stock still and it looked like they were heading straight to the gateway where I'm stood there isn't a gate here at the moment that's closed so it's a gateway into the lane and as they came closer and closer I thought if I stay still enough maybe they'll run right by me at the last minute they caught sight of me and veered at right angles alongside the hedgerow to avoid me and then I heard a scrabble through the hedge and a patter of feet on the tarmac road and one of them leapt over the hedge and the other looked at me and then retraced its steps and I heard it bark it was like I've never heard a deer before is that the right terminology I just heard the noise it was making which I guess is it's it's a call to warn other deer that there's danger around and this was played out in front of me as I just stood here and all that thinking of those silly stories that I tell myself and we all tell ourselves like I'm I prepare better and all of those stories just kind of you know chunter on in my head and I feel as though I've been gifted such a beautiful experience with these two deer and it just reminds me that earlier when I was walking I I was walking and I turned around and there was a black black cloud that was highlighting a rainbow and it feels as though I've been given these little gifts today these little gifts just to reflect on in nature so today's reflection is sometimes when our intentions are thwarted my intention was to record something for you about a completely different topic there is something more beautiful that appears so be prepared for that beautiful experience that might appear and it appears because you've made space for it or you're present and have the awareness to appreciate it when it arises so it's a bit of a shorter reflection today and it's just a reminder that sometimes when life doesn't go the way we want there is something else waiting for us and sometimes that something else can be magical and just be open to it and the other thing I'll say which I'm saying to myself as well and when you do give yourself a hard time because we do it's no point saying don't give yourself a hard time we just do that's what we do just notice it and bring a feeling of love and compassion to yourself so that's today's day's reflection just keep your eyes open for the unexpected and there's magic out there
