What in your life no longer deserves your attention? In today’s Five Minutes in Nature, Liz pauses to notice how easily she slips into overthinking — giving too much energy to worry and anxious thoughts. As she walks and breathes in nature’s calm, she asks a powerful question: What are you ready to stop feeding with your focus? What might gently fall away, if you allowed it?

Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott and you join me here at the cemetery in Exeter where I'm leading on from yesterday's question which I asked in the cemetery here and it's a beautiful beautiful day blue sky the trees are out in leaf it's a wild cemetery a wildflower cemetery so I can see buttercups and dandelions and daisies all coming through the grass which is very lush at the moment we've had a warm spell and a bit of water and everything just looks like it's growing at such a rate and if you remember if you remember yesterday I asked a question what's the most important thing you're not paying attention to do you remember that it was a reflection on what's the most important thing in your life that you're not paying attention to and I'm going to follow on that question today because that question had me reflect in a really positive way and as I was saying yesterday being in a cemetery I find really uplifting I feel it really uplifting because it reminds me of the gift of life the gift of being alive of this precious moment we have of experiencing being human and being in the cemetery just really reminds me how lucky I am and today I want to ask a slightly different question and the question is this what in your life would you like to not pay attention to what in your life would you like to not pay attention to in other words is there something in your life and we just just have it as one thing at the moment just one thing there might be many things but just reflect on one thing is there one thing in your life it could be a person and experience a circumstance and activity a habitual thought pattern that you're giving too much attention to so what in your life are you giving too much attention to one of the things I've really learned particularly when I went on my pilgrimage in March and April this year was the absolute power of a quiet mind and when I say the power of a quiet mind what I mean is that with the simplicity of walking being in a meditative state as I walked of not having to overly think about life I found moments on my pilgrimage where I fell into a space that felt extraordinarily nourishing spiritually nourishing and it was nourishing not because of what I was doing or thinking it was nourishing because of what I was not doing and what I was not thinking so in this spiritually nourishing space I noticed that when I allow my mind to settle and I don't get lost in the everyday repetitive thought patterns that plague me in everyday life I experience incredible nourishment like soul nourishment so for me this question that I've asked today is what is it in my life that I want to not give attention to what am I giving attention to that I want to stop giving attention to that has been particularly important for me to reflect on today you see I find that even after all these years of being a teacher and of being on a spiritual deepening journey I often get lost in being human I get lost in concerns about what I should be like what I should be doing who I am whether I'm a good person or a bad person or if I'm doing things right and actually what I realize as I ask myself this question what do I not want to give attention to I realize that when I give attention to my thinking and my thoughts and my anxiety and my anxieties and my worries all that happens is I feed them so ask yourself the question what is it that you're giving attention to that you know that it's not the right thing you don't want to give attention to it what is it in your life that you'd like to stop giving attention to

Perfect, thank you again. Much appreciated. These are questions that literally go right to the heart of the matter. ❤️ I'll set this as my intention today and come back to it often.

Thankyou Liz for this question 🙏🏼 Worrying about the outcome is a big one for me. Learning to let go of the attachment to an outcome that I have no direct control over. It’s a childhood issue so baby steps to re-learn letting go and being discerning on what matters most. 🌿🌷💚🌷🌿

An easier question to answer than yesterday's! My job/work takes up far more bandwidth than I'd like it to. At times it's extremely stressful and is the reason I took up meditation many years ago. I'm looking forward to retiring, but it's not quite the time just yet. While I wait I try and fill my life with nourishing activities and experiences that balance out the less-nourishing ones.

Thank you for this question. It helps to realise where my attention is when I feel restless and what to do to find peace of mind again.

Thank you very much dear Liz for these jewels. I shall be pondering your question as i am scurrying and scampering through the day. 🐭
