The Three Principles: An Introduction

With Liz Scott

The Three Principles bring spirituality into the realms of psychology and psychiatry. Originally articulated by Scottish mystic Sydney Banks about 50 years ago, these principles emerged from a profound, life-changing experience that altered his life's course. Following his enlightenment, Syd left his job to share his hopeful message of mental health with anyone willing to listen. Since his death, the transformative message of the Three Principles has been spreading globally. In this course, you'll explore how the Three Principles can guide you to the fundamental truth of who you are.

Lesson 3

Starting With Principles

The term "principles" is often used colloquially to mean a good idea or concept. However, when it comes to the Three Principles, "principles" refers to the fundamental truths and facts that underlie our understanding. Principles are crucial for comprehending how something functions. In the context of the Three Principles, we are delving into the foundational principles of the human psychological system.

Lesson 4

The Power Of Learning Without Your Intellect

The Three Principles won't have any impact if you only use your intellect to understand them. It's important to understand the 3Ps experientially. The 3Ps are not transformational in their own right, the 3Ps are transformational because of what they point to.

Lesson 6

Where Did The Three Principles Come From?

In 1973, Sydney Banks, a regular working man, had a sudden and life-changing transformational experience. This profound insight made him realize that what he had discovered would revolutionize psychology and psychiatry forever. Struggling to explain his enlightenment experience, Syd eventually began using the language of 'The Three Principles' to help people understand what he had seen.

Lesson 7

The Principle Of Thought

What exactly is the principle of Thought? We use a capital letter 'T' for Thought to make the distinction between thinking and the creative energy of 'Thought'. Today you'll see that Thought is not constant, it comes and it goes. Thought is like the weather, it changes and never stays the same.

Lesson 8

The Principle Of Mind

The Principle of Mind is at the foundation of the 3Ps understanding. The Principle of Mind points to the wisdom and intelligence of the universe. This intelligent energy of Mind infuses everything. You can see this intelligence in nature, you can see this intelligence in our bodies and you can see this intelligence within our psychological system.

Lesson 9

The Principle Of Consciousness

The Principle of Consciousness represents the aspect of you that 'knows' and is 'aware.' It is the part of you that recognizes when you are caught in a thought-storm. This principle gently guides you in the right direction, steering you toward your inner wisdom and intuition.

Lesson 10

Insights Can Change The World

Insights are the power behind the Three Principles. Sydney Banks realized that an intellectual understanding isn't helpful - it is when people have insights that things significantly change. If you are curious about the Three Principles and you look in the direction of wisdom and clarity, then you'll see the power of insights turn up in your life.

Incredible course, had so many moments of profound insight .. and peace. Having a significant impact on my overthinking habit. Even with something struggled with since early years, which lightbulb now showed has been a 'poor me' thought story. Taken notes & summarized. I will be working on this to cement it! 💖

This is a wonderful course that helps think about your thinking. I feel like so many things have coalesced around these ideas and so it's nice to have some language to put things together. Or a structure in which to understand myself. I love Liz's personal stories and insights that help point people in the right direction for finding their own insights. I highly recommend this course to anyone (and I have).

I appreciate how it’s broken down in a kind of philosophical way rather than technical. Its looser and more easily understood using personal stories, kind of like working by feel.

Likened to being guided while blindfolded through a forest, this course teaches principles of understanding yourself and your world. For me personally, it felt like I was able to tie together the steps that my mind makes when journeying from raw experience to settled outcomes. Thank you.

This course helped me to better understand the collaborative and combative volley of thought (active good & bad judgements) and the wisdom of mind (unconsciou goodness compass): with an ebb & flow conscious nudging me in the direction of righteousness ( the right thing to do).. It helped me to appreciate and actively seek guidance from my Holy Spirit.
