Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott.

Well yesterday I was in Exeter and I was thwarted on my morning walk because it was so icy and I didn't go out until later in the day.

I'm back home now back on Dartmoor and this morning I thought it's gonna be icy outside I'm not going to go out until it's daylight until the sun has risen because I really don't want to slip and slide all over the place and today when I got out it wasn't as slippery it was a delight in fact when I came up on the moors earlier this morning there was a dusting of snow and I just wanted to walk and walk and walk it just had this sense of energy that lit me up from within and today is actually all about just exploring what it is when we set intentions and set aspirations and then they don't happen in the way that we think they should or life doesn't turn out in the way we think it should.

I mean just today when I was walking in fact this is the second walk I've done in the last two hours the first walk I came out expecting myself to walk across the moorland high on the moors up to a place that I know called Spurrell's Cross and I'd envisaged it in my mind and seen the blue of the sky and the snow that was still caught on the grass but I got about a mile into my walk and I realized I'd forgotten to bring my recording equipment and I wanted to do five minutes in nature so I just turned around went home and came out again and that for me is just a really simple illustration of what happens is that life happens we might have intentions about what we want to do but ultimately life just turns up and does its thing and it's much easier just to go with the flow of life and with how life is turning out.

A neighbour of mine bumped into me earlier and last month we went and did a bit of singing for a carol concert just before Christmas and we had been asked to sing specially there were six of us that had been asked to sing specially to support the singing and it was one of those experiences that the the man who had asked us to sing obviously thought that our skill of singing and reading music and sight reading was much greater than we were actually capable of and we all responded very differently in that situation the six of us that had been asked to come and create this impromptu choir.

For myself and my husband we just kind of understand the nature of what's going on we don't get lost in thought and for us we just turned up and did the best we could without too much thinking about it.

My neighbour who bumped into me had also been part of that impromptu choir and he just said gosh I just want to say I keep thinking how great it was to have you and your husband there in that impromptu choir because it had the potential to get a little bit angsty to get a little bit stressy and he went on to say but you and your husband you just kind of just went with the flow of it and it kind of dampened what could have been a little bit of an unsettling experience for everybody who turned up expecting something a little bit different people have been expecting to turn up to help out and instead were put on the spotlight a little bit with expectations that they were going to sing something that was very difficult to sing and needed a lot more rehearsals than just two hours before we turned up and the reason I say this is because in that instance and it doesn't always happen for me sometimes I get lost in thought and story and I tell you about that but when I'm not lost in thought and story all that happens is I turn up to something I turn up to sing carols and it turns out a different way than I was expecting and it's okay I go for a walk and I'm expecting to walk in one direction and I've forgotten something so I need to go back and get what I've forgotten and come out again when I just turn up to life in the way that it's unfolding it really has a sense of ease about it and that's what I want to share with you today is that when we turn up to the way that life works and we go with the flow of it then life has a sense of ease and for me as I live my life with this gentle sense of contentedness which is for me the deepest level of joy and happiness I could ever experience the when I live life touching base with that I know I'm living life with ease and I know that I'm living aligning myself with the way that life works and living life as it unfolds
