Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me,
Liz Scott,
Out on a very,
Very early morning stroll.
I'm actually strolling to get my car so I can go down to the gym.
It's grey,
It's cool,
But the forecast is nice,
So I think what I've got here is a moorland mist right on the edge of the moor.
We've got a little touch of a moorland mist,
Which is just creating this cool dampness.
It lifts the day is going to be wonderfully warm.
Today I'm following on from yesterday and the day before,
Where we were looking at the three principles.
If you remember,
The three principles are mind,
Consciousness and thought.
We've looked at mind,
Which is like the intelligence behind everything.
And today we're looking at the principle of thought.
If you want to remind yourself,
Just look back at yesterday's and the day before track,
Just to bring yourself up to speed with what the three principles are.
Principles are and where they came from.
But ultimately what's so helpful about the three principles is not what they are,
But what they explain about life.
And thought is one of the ones that I found particularly helpful when I came across the three principles.
I guess the first thing to clarify about the principle of thought is that it is much more than the thinking that you or I have in our heads.
So for me,
Have in my head often almost feels like a commentator.
You know,
When you go to,
To watch on,
On the television,
You watch the sport and you've got the commentators talking endlessly about the players on the field and what they're doing.
Well,
That commentator is a little bit what I have in my head.
So for example,
Even as I walk along here today,
It's like,
Oh,
It's a little bit cool.
Oh,
I need to make sure I'm not late for the gym.
It's the thing that might judge people or make commentary about what's going on in the world.
It's it's just constantly Talking in my world.
That's what thinking does and you'll have your own thinking But it's much broader than that when we talk about the principle of thought Because actually the principle of thought explains so much It's the it's almost like the missing link the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle to explain why we see things so differently in the world and respond so differently.
And often we don't pause to question how is it that the same event could be witnessed by two people,
Exactly the same thing,
And there are two very different responses to it.
Well,
The answer is thought.
The answer is people are experiencing everything in their lives through the principle of thought.
For example,
At the moment,
It's football.
We're in the middle of the World Cup,
The soccer World Cup,
If you're American,
And there are people that are supporting avidly their team.
So you imagine watching a football game and you are sitting next to someone who's supporting another team,
The other team.
You have very different experiences of the match.
When you have a high because your team is doing well,
The other person has a low and vice versa.
And that is an extraordinary thing if you just take time to pause and reflect on it,
Because you are both watching the same thing,
But having different experiences,
Whole different experiences of what is happening in front of your eyes.
And that translates into the rest of life.
None of us,
Even though we are experiencing the same things in life,
Are having the same experience.
Of our world is through thought.
And it's not just about what's going on around us.
Thought reminds us and recalls the past.
It creates futures about what may or may not happen.
It gets lost in thought loops and habitual thoughts that have us see the world a certain way.
It's really helpful to get an inkling of the power of thought.
And when you get an inkling of the power of thought,
Thought no longer hijacks That's what I've found.
I no longer get so lost in thought,
Believing every thought to be true.
Instead,
I see thought more like an interpreter of life.
And I am a bit cautious.
Is it giving me good feedback on the way that life is going?
That's my whistle-top explanation of thought,
The principle of thought with the three principles.
We've looked at mind,
We've looked at thought,
And tomorrow we're going to take a look at consciousness.
Let me know your reflections and what you're getting from this little mini-series,
And I look forward to joining you again tomorrow for another five minutes in nature.
