Namaste and welcome to this guided yoga nidra practice for the waxing moon.
New light gathers in the sky,
Supporting growth,
Focus and forward motion.
Here,
Intention finds its way into form as we move forward with clarity and purpose.
Know that this is a completely effortless,
Deep rest journey inward.
And so,
I invite you now to lie down,
To find a comfortable position to rest on the earth,
The couch or even cozy in your bed,
Adjusting the position of the body to find the utmost comfort,
Extending the arms and the legs and reaching for a blanket,
A weighted eye pillow or covering to help block out any light.
Take all the time that you need here to ensure that the body feels relaxed,
Supported so that the mind can be at ease in the body.
What might you do to become even 2% more comfortable?
Letting go of any lingering momentum or movement,
Allow the body to become completely still,
Nothing to do,
Nowhere to go but in.
Let us begin together by taking a slow,
Deep breath in through the nose and exhale through the mouth,
Allowing the feet and the legs to become heavy.
On the next inhale,
Take two sips of air in through the nose to fully inflate the lungs.
Exhale through the mouth,
Allowing the pelvis,
Hips and whole trunk of the body to relax,
Becoming heavy,
And again,
The physiological sigh,
Two sips in,
One breath out,
Allowing the arms and hands,
Neck and head to become heavy,
Still,
Resting on the earth,
One more like this,
Two sips in,
Hold momentarily,
Exhale through the mouth,
The whole body melting back,
Sinking into the earth,
Arriving with a heartfelt intention,
I am practicing Yoganidhara.
As the body and mind drift into sleep,
Awareness remains bright,
Like the moon,
Softening into a journey toward wakeful sleep,
Or yogic sleep.
If you do fall into deep,
Unconscious sleep,
Trust that might be exactly what you need.
Bring awareness to rest at the navel center,
And quietly observe the gentle rise and fall of the navel with each breath,
Paying special attention to the inhale,
For each breath is like the cycle of the moon,
Waxing and waning,
Feeling that gentle expansiveness on the inhale,
Slowly,
Like a balloon,
Expanding,
Contracting,
Restoring balance,
Inviting awareness now,
Down and into the toes,
Consciously,
Relax the toes,
All of the toes,
Both feet,
Softening open,
Into all of the tiny muscles,
Bones in the feet,
Both ankles becoming heavy,
The legs,
Knees softening,
Upper legs and hips,
Pelvic bowl,
Torso,
Front and back,
Upper chest,
Shoulders,
Upper arms,
Elbows,
Forearms and wrists,
Hands,
Fingers,
All of the limbs,
And trunk of the body,
And the whole neck and head,
Resting deeply,
From toe tips and fingertips up to the crown,
Under the light of your awareness,
Soften the eyelids,
Allow the eyes themselves to become heavy,
Notice and welcome the darkness behind closed eyes,
The soft touch of breath in the nose,
Any fragrance in the air,
Any taste inside of the mouth,
The gentle touch of clothes,
Blankets against the skin,
The points of contact where your body meets the earth,
Relax the whole skin surface,
Like the moon,
The growing light of your awareness,
Illuminating sensations in the body,
Inviting in deep medicinal rest,
Sensations arising and fading away,
Notice the ears,
Listening,
Welcoming in sounds,
And just allow your awareness in a gentle way to follow my guidance down and into the space of the heart,
And from this place of inner wisdom and truth,
Source,
We invite in a sankalpa,
You may be working with your own sankalpa already,
Or you may borrow one of the following phrases,
I am rooted in clarity and trust,
Or I am aligned with what is unfolding,
Mentally repeat this now 3 times,
I am rooted in clarity and trust,
Or I am aligned with what is unfolding.
We will now begin a rotation of conscious awareness throughout the physical body,
The growing light of your awareness,
Like the waxing moon,
Illuminating sensations in the body,
Followed by deep rest and conscious relaxation as you bring awareness to each point in the body,
Beginning again in the feet,
Bring awareness down and into the toes,
Sensing and feeling all ten toes,
Condensing awareness into the right foot,
From heel to toe tips,
Starting in the big toe,
Second toe,
Third,
Baby toe,
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot,
Heel,
Ankle,
Lower leg,
Shin and calf,
Relax the knee,
Back of the knee,
The whole upper leg,
Front and back,
Top of the femur,
The right hip,
The whole right leg,
Illuminated with sensations,
Deeply resting from the inside out,
To the left foot,
From heel to toe tips,
Starting in the big toe,
Relax the big toe,
Second toe,
Baby toe,
All five toes,
Sole of the foot,
Top of the foot,
Heel,
Lower leg,
Shin and calf,
Back of the knee,
Upper leg,
Front and back,
Top of the femur bone,
The left hip,
The whole left leg,
Vibrant with sensations,
Deeply resting,
Into both feet,
Both legs,
Both hips,
The whole pelvic bowl,
The low belly,
Vital organs coming to rest,
Navel center,
Diaphragm,
Ribcage,
Sternum,
Center of the chest,
Heart center,
Both sides of the upper chest,
Collarbones,
Shoulder blades,
To the right shoulder,
Upper arm,
Forearm,
All five fingers,
Starting in the thumb,
Tips of the fingers,
To the center of the chest,
To the left shoulder,
Elbow,
Forearm,
Wrist,
Palm and back of the hand,
All five fingers,
Starting in the thumb,
All five fingers,
Resting,
Tips of the fingers,
All ten fingers,
Both hands,
Wrists,
Forearms,
Elbows,
Upper arms,
Shoulders,
Upper chest,
Both arms,
Filled with sensations,
Vibration,
Resting deeply,
To the center of the throat,
Lower jaw,
Upper jaw,
Teeth and gums,
Muscle of the tongue,
Tip of the tongue,
Root of the tongue,
The outer architecture of the nose,
Nostrils,
The flow of breath in the nose,
To the point between the brows,
Relax the eyebrows,
Temples,
Cheekbones,
Both eyes,
Inner and outer creases of the eyes,
Eyelids,
The whole forehead,
Crown of the head,
Back of the head,
Relax into the space between,
The center of the head and the back of the head,
Quiet the mind,
As the body drifts into sleep,
Thoughts dissolving,
Awareness waxing,
Like the moon,
The whole body,
Resting so deeply,
The whole body,
Turning awareness now,
To the already present flow of the breath in the body,
Sensing and feeling the ebb and flow of each breath in the nose,
Both nostrils,
To the left nostril,
Noticing the breath in the right nostril,
Imagine breathing in and out of the center of the forehead,
The mind's eye center,
Through the right nostril,
Breathing in through the right nostril,
Switching sides,
And now exhale through the left nostril,
All of your awareness resting in the left nostril,
Breathing in and out of the left side nostril,
And now,
Breathing in through the left,
Switching sides,
And out through the right,
In through the right,
Switching sides,
Out through the left,
Breath flowing in,
To the left,
Out through the right,
In through the right,
Alternating nostrils,
As the breath flows from side to side,
At your own pace,
In your own way,
If it feels like too much,
Just focus the on one side,
And then the other,
A psychic Nadi Shodhana practice,
To restore balance,
As within,
So without,
Awareness resting at the point between the brows,
The darkness behind closed eyes,
And begin to imagine a forest path,
Emerging in the early morning light,
Standing on this path,
Deep in a lush forest of green,
As you begin to walk slowly,
The pathway reveals itself gradually,
As the light emerges,
The way forward is offered step by step,
This pathway carries you through the forest,
To a clearing,
Open and vast,
Where the rising sunlight shines through,
Down into a clear,
Motionless pool of water,
As you come to kneel,
Next to the pool,
You look down,
And deep within,
And you notice your reflection,
Like looking into a mirror,
See yourself in the reflection,
A calm reflection of yourself appears,
Steady,
Radiant,
This reflection of the most vibrant,
Healthy version of you,
Smiling,
Full of peace and joy,
See with clarity,
And quiet attention,
The image of your highest self revealed,
To you here and now,
With patience,
Trust,
And forward momentum,
The truth of your highest self revealed,
It comes from within,
Resting here now,
With this deep inner knowing,
That the version of you that you long for,
Is already here,
Reflected in every moment,
In every breath,
As the imagery dissolves,
It leaves behind a simple sense of direction,
Held deeply within,
You already know the way forward,
Resting now,
As pure awareness itself,
Body and mind asleep,
Awareness is bright,
Spacious eternal awareness,
With a gentle openness and receptivity,
It is now time to recall your Sankalpa,
I am rooted in clarity and trust,
Or I am aligned with what is unfolding,
Mentally repeat your Sankalpa now,
Three times,
Affirm it,
Planting it like a seed,
May the deep rest and wakeful awareness of Yogananda reveal the truth of your being,
Your true self is already here,
Trust with this direction to move forward with clarity and ease,
Start to slowly bring awareness back into the body,
Sensing and feeling the hands,
Feet,
Limbs,
Torso,
Head and neck,
Notice the breath in the body,
And start to slowly deepen the breath,
Remember your Sankalpa,
Begin to wiggle fingers and toes,
And in your own time,
Bend the knees and roll over onto one side,
And rest here for some time,
To reflect,
To integrate,
To remember,
And see how long this feeling tone lasts,
For deep rest and clarity comes from within,
Gently guiding you forward,
It is simply a practice of remembering.
