Tired of feeling misunderstood by others and a little judgemental of family, friends and strangers? This meditation will shift this experience and allow you to experience a deep sense of connection to yourself, others and the world in which you live. Enjoy.
Transcript
A warm welcome to you.
We all yearn for greater connection,
Whether it be a desire to understand ourselves a little more,
A longing for more meaningful relationships,
Or a need to feel connected to something larger than ourselves.
Even the busyness of life makes experiencing this connection feel just out of our reach.
We get caught up in the flow of doing,
Reacting,
Working our way through endless tasks.
That the end of the day arrives and there has been little time for cultivating feelings of connection within ourselves,
With others,
And the world in which we live.
During this meditation we will take pause from our busy lives and really create a space for feelings of connection to grow within us.
We will connect with ourselves through a focus on our breath and our heart.
We shall hold our relationships in our minds eye and offer them the attention they need to grow and flourish.
We shall also connect to something larger than ourselves.
We shall hear the whispers of the universe.
So let us begin by finding a comfortable position.
This could be seated or lying down.
Can you offer yourself a gentle smile of appreciation for being here right now,
For your desire to feel more connection in your life?
Closing down your eyes if you like.
Letting the landscape of your awareness turn inwards to your breath,
Body and heart.
As you settle in,
Noticing the places where your body comes in contact with the surface that supports you.
Flexing into this support a little more now.
Really letting the ground receive your weight.
Taking a nice deep breath into this feeling of being supported,
Of the earth holding you.
And as you exhale,
Sinking deeper and letting go as best you can of anything that doesn't serve you in this moment.
Remembering there is nowhere else you need to be,
It's okay to take this time for yourself.
Really arriving now into this moment,
Connecting with this moment,
Connecting with yourself.
Giving your attention now towards your breath,
This constant and gentle life force.
Noticing the air as it enters your nose.
Noticing the air as it leaves your mouth.
Noticing the rise and fall of your chest.
Noticing the soft expanse of your belly as the air flows in and out.
Having a few more moments here in the gentle movement of your breath.
What a gift it is to cultivate such mindful awareness and connection.
If you notice your mind is wandering,
Perhaps to certain thoughts or emotions,
That's okay.
See if you can attend to them with curiosity and openness and when it feels right for you,
Return to the sound of my voice.
Connecting once more to your breath,
This gift,
This life force.
As you continue to connect to your breath,
What do you notice?
Perhaps you are aware of a growing experience of relaxation,
Of peace,
Of calm.
Perhaps you are aware of emotions or thoughts moving in and out of your awareness.
Can you rest here in your experience for a moment or two?
There is no right or wrong,
Just being curious and open,
Here in this moment of connection with yourself.
When you are ready,
Moving your attention to your heart and the space around it.
Inviting some gentle breaths into this space now.
With each breath can you feel a softening?
Perhaps you can feel your heart beating.
Is it soft,
Strong,
Fast or slow?
Directing a few more deep breaths into this space now,
As if each breath is waking your heart from its slumber.
And as your heart wakes,
Perhaps you can picture it in your mind.
I wonder,
What colour is it?
Is it big or small?
Is it moving or is it still?
Taking a moment now to notice any feelings or sensations that are present for you in your heart.
How does your heart feel today?
Strong,
Open,
Abundant.
Reserved,
Tentative,
Shy.
Maybe you don't feel much at all or no words come to mind.
Whatever your experience is,
This is okay.
Just resting here in the space of your heart for a few more moments.
Cultivating this connection with yourself.
I wonder,
Which part of yourself comes forward when you connect with your heart?
Who is talking?
Who is listening?
Is there a part of yourself that you would like to feel more connected to?
Perhaps you would like to connect with your creative self,
Your adventurous self,
Your fun loving self.
Yourself that is brave,
Honest or compassionate.
Allowing yourself a few moments here to connect with this certain part of you.
Understanding that through breath you can wake this part of yourself from slumber.
Making this part of you alive,
Vibrant and strong.
Moving now to experiencing connection with others.
I wonder,
Is there someone in your life right now who you would like to experience greater connection with?
Someone you yearn to feel closer to?
Someone you would like to communicate with more openly and honestly?
Can you picture this person in your mind's eye?
Finding a moment now taking in this person,
Noticing the features of their face,
Their posture,
Their clothes.
They are smiling at you.
I wonder,
Can you smile back at them?
How does it feel to stand here together,
Smiling at one another?
How does it feel to give and receive the warmth of this smile?
Can you open into this feeling a little more?
Can you allow the essence of this shared smile to move through your body?
Feeling this smile move from your heart into your chest.
Travelling into your tummy,
Hips and pelvis.
Moving down your legs to your feet and your toes.
Feeling this smile move across your shoulders,
Down your arms to your hands and fingers.
Feeling the essence of this shared smile to seep into your entire being.
And so I ask you,
How would you like to relate to this person?
How would you like to communicate with them?
You may notice words,
Emotions,
Physical sensations,
Just being open to whatever comes up for you.
Breathing in this experience of greater connection.
Breathing out this experience of greater connection.
If this connection was a colour,
What would it be?
Breathing in this colour.
Breathing out this colour.
Can you picture yourself surrounded by this colour now,
As if floating in a cloud of its essence and beauty?
It is holding you.
You are being held.
Staying here for a moment or two,
Allowing any experiences of connection or love to move through your body with the aid of your breath.
I wonder,
Would you like to offer yourself a gentle commitment about how you would like to relate to this person,
Or to others,
In the future?
Moving our awareness now towards cultivating connection for something larger than ourselves.
I found this letter from the universe blowing in the breeze.
It was addressed to you.
My friend,
I know at times you may feel a little lost or alone.
That sometimes fear moves through you with the force of a wave.
I know that you yearn for understanding and connection.
But I have not forgotten you.
I see you.
I am here for you.
I hold you in my eternal heart.
You are part of my boundless beauty.
I leave clues for you throughout your daily life,
Reminders that I am here,
That we are here together in this life.
These clues reveal my love and connection,
If only you would stop and see.
The flowers that bloom so vibrant in spring.
The autumn leaves that change in color and texture.
Falling gently to the earth's floor and crunching beneath your feet.
These are signs for you that I am here,
That I am part of you,
That you are part of me.
So when you hear the sweet song of birds,
The gentle lap of a tide,
The wind moving through the trees,
Know that these are the sounds that connect us.
And when you witness the magic of a sunrise or sunset and are moved by the changing colors in the sky,
Know that this is my way of showing you that I am here,
That in this act of noticing we are here together.
When you see grass sprout from a pavement crack,
Trees blossom in city streets,
Plants grow in unlikely conditions.
These contrasts are a reminder of my power.
Within this power I hold you.
So move through your days with awareness and ease,
Pause and enjoy these gifts I offer you.
Let them fill you with awe and wonder for this world of ours.
Let them fill you with a sense of peace,
Love and connection.
My friend,
I hold you in my eternal heart.
I hold you within the movement of life.
Taking now a few deep universal breaths.
And as you breathe celebrating this shared life force,
This individual and collective gift.
Noticing now any sounds around you.
Noticing your place amidst the sounds of life.
Starting to bring your awareness back to the space you are in.
Slowly opening your eyes.
May you move through your days with a greater sense of connection.
May this bring a sense of expansion,
Peace and ease.
