Hi,
This is Dr.
Moreno,
Psychologist.
I believe that we could all benefit from our own internal coach,
Our own inner voice who's there to motivate,
Support,
And encourage us.
I think about the coach of a sports team amping up their team before their game.
Some coaches are so inspiring and intense that they've been credited with their team's win.
Their words can influence a bad team to be good or a good team to be even better.
Now that's a lot of power.
Now think about our own self-talk,
The things we say to ourselves in our head.
Most of us have a very negative and potentially damaging inner dialogue.
We say things in our own mind that we would never even think of saying to another human being because it's too cruel and judgmental.
We often call ourselves names,
We put ourselves down,
We minimize,
Criticize.
Imagine if this is what your team heard before the game.
Well I don't think you're going to win today,
You just don't have it in you.
You're not as fast as them,
You're not as strong as them,
You're not as smart as them,
So why even try?
You know what,
We could just forfeit now and save ourselves from the embarrassment.
As opposed to,
You can do this,
Prove that you want this more than they do,
Prove that you have more drive,
More stamina,
More passion,
And more heart.
This is your chance to show them what you're made of.
You've earned a right to be here and you've earned this moment.
Take it all in and be proud of yourself and let's take home that win.
Now I would think that this last speech would be more likely to result in a win than the first one.
So it's whether we're about to compete,
Prepare for a presentation,
Go on a job interview,
Maybe getting ready to go skydiving,
Or you're about to propose,
Or ready to give birth,
Whatever it is,
What we say to ourselves in our mind we eventually believe.
So it better be positive.
Life is tough and we're beaten down by the world around us all the time.
We cannot afford to leave this type of support in other people's hands.
We have to take control of our own lives and do it for ourselves.
If we don't take care of ourselves,
We can't expect others to.
So when you need a little extra motivation,
Step up and be your own coach and try these affirmations.
You can start by saying them silently in your head,
But saying them out loud is more powerful.
And saying them to yourself while looking in the mirror is way more powerful.
It might feel uncomfortable at first,
But just like anything else,
The more that you practice it,
The easier it becomes.
So here we go with the affirmations.
I am strong.
I am capable.
I am smart.
I am talented.
I am motivated.
I am confident.
I am resilient.
I am powerful.
I have heart.
I have stamina.
I have courage.
I have willpower.
I will succeed.
I will fight.
I will win.
I can overcome anything.
I can do anything.
And I can do this.
Pick one or two of these affirmations to take with you and repeat through the day.
Thanks for letting me be your coach today.
