Richard Schwartz began his career as a systemic family therapist and an academic. Grounded in systems thinking, Dr. Schwartz developed Internal Family Systems (IFS) in response to clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves. He found that when the clients’ parts felt safe and were allowed to relax, the clients would experience spontaneously the qualities of confidence, openness, and compassion that Dr. Schwartz came to call the Self.

I have a particular self-sabotaging behavior related to OCD that has made itself present periodically since I was quite young. It especially rears its head when I’m stressed or overwhelmed. I’ve long tried to understand why it’s there. Although I’ve learned better ways to cope with and prevent episodes, grasping why it’s fundamentally there has been elusive. Today I have begun to understand thanks to this meditation. As the meditation ended I said to it, “We’ll talk again,” and it agreed to do so. I can’t thank you enough for this meditation. 🙏
