Hi,
I'm Caitlin Clark.
Welcome to today's embodiment practice.
Today we're going to practice a grounding exercise called 5-4-3-2-1.
It's a great exercise to use when you're feeling activated,
Overwhelmed,
And just need to come back into present.
And we'll do that by noticing all five senses one at a time.
It's a really simple practice that can bring more ease and groundedness into your nervous system and into your sense of self.
So let's begin.
Start by noticing five things that you see with your eyes and ideally you're looking all around your room.
It can be helpful to think about five things that are the color red for example.
I see my bolster in front of me,
I see my child's finger knitting on my bookshelf,
I see a beautiful glass orb that a mentor gave to me,
A bottle of rose water,
And of course my post-it notes.
So just taking a moment to notice five things that you see in your environment.
And next we'll move to four things that we feel.
I notice the fabric that's soft on my shirt,
I notice my heart beating,
I notice the sensation of my feet on the floor,
And I notice the feeling of breath in my belly.
Taking a moment to notice what you feel.
And next we'll notice three things that we hear.
I hear the sound of my own voice,
I hear traffic outside of my window,
And I hear birds singing.
Three things that you hear.
Two things now that you smell.
I notice the smell of Palo Santo that I burned just before I arrived here today.
And I notice my laundry detergent.
Two things that you smell.
And finally one thing that you taste.
It might be an actual flavor or something specific that you notice.
I'm noticing the mineral water aftertaste in my mouth,
A little sweet.
What do you notice?
Five sense awareness grounding through our senses.
Taking a moment to notice the effect of the simple grounding practice on your body,
On your breath,
And on your mind.
And knowing that you can return to this practice at any time,
Day or night,
Whenever you feel the need to take a time out to rest,
To re-ground,
And reconnect with your sense of ease and present moment awareness.
Thank you so much for practicing with me today.
Be well.
