Totally got this concept several years ago when I realized that something somebody was asking me to do was not something I could nor wanted to do and rather than explaining why it wouldn’t work for me, I just said no thank you I can’t do that. And without giving an excuse or explaining, I gave them nothing to argue with and it was stop-me-in-my-tracks amazing how freeing that felt. Thank you for this offering

This was excellent. My two main takeaways are lines…. “ you don’t have to explain yourself” and “ am I explaining to connect or defend? Very powerful and insightful. Thank you!

Extremely helpful to hear at this time. It’s great hearing confidence from the person speaking and knowing they have experienced what they’re talking about and have learned valuable lessons from it. A great 5 minutes and one that I’ll listen to again.

It took me a long time to learn this one, along with not to people please, it’s so freeing! No means no, I can’t/wont/am not able to need no further explanation 😁

Thank you Katharine for bringing this topic into the open. Just like you, one day a friend said “You don’t have to justify yourself” when I’m explaining why I made a particular decision. That was my a-ha moment and I realised it has become a habit for me as my older sister will accuse me of something and make me explain, proof and defend myself. And as a result I always learned to explain myself first so she doesn’t “misunderstand” me. I since realised this dynamic is toxic and draining and I have been giving my power away to her (because for sure I want her approval and love) and I stopped. Our relationship then fell apart as I am no longer compliant and I had a lot of grief and pain about this. I went through this pain and acknowledged I have to become healthier with my boundaries. Please make more content regarding boundaries, thank you. 🙏🏻
