I’ve been practicing mindful journaling for decades, and it remains my most trusted tool for finding clarity in a busy world. It isn’t about writing pages of perfect prose; it’s a simple way to slow down and give your thoughts a gentle place to land. I’ll explain how my favorite technique, writing with your non-dominant hand, can help you bypass overthinking and reconnect with your own inner wisdom.

I'm Katherine Chestnut,

And I'd love to introduce you to one of my absolute favorite mindfulness practices.

Mindful journaling.

A lot of people think journaling is about writing pages and pages and pages or finding the perfect words,

But mindful journaling is much simpler than that.

It is the practice of slowing down long enough to notice what's happening inside you and giving you a place to land.

We're not trying to solve every problem.

You simply get curious.

You might ask yourself,

What do I need right now?

Or what am I carrying that I'm ready to put down?

My favorite way of journaling.

Is Mindful Journaling and my version includes writing with your non-dominant hand,

Meaning whatever you don't usually write with.

Right with the other hand.

It slows the mind down and often helps you access thoughts and feelings that don't always come through when you're trying to be polished or get it right or listening to all the shoulda,

Coulda,

Wouldas.

You don't need a special notebook.

You don't need perfect handwriting.

In fact,

Your handwriting is going to be challenging.

You don't need lots of time.

Just a few minutes.

To listen.

Mindful journaling can help quiet overthinking,

Reduce stress,

And reconnect with your own inner wisdom.

And if you'd like some support.

I host a live mindful journaling session every week on Insight Timer.

And I'd love to have you join the group of people that are there every week.

Sometimes the answers we're looking for aren't out there somewhere.

They're waiting in the quiet space between pens.

And page.
