When You Look Inside - Poem & Discussion By Zachary Phillips. It is easy to fall for the illusion of ego. That is that we, at our core, are a stable entity. The reality is that we are a process; an ever-changing thing that can’t quite be pinned down. Who I am is different depending on the context and the person observing. To my son, I am one person, to a workmate I am someone else. When happy, I act one way, and when anxious, I act another. The truth is that I'm all of these people and much more.
