The Sustainable Caregiver - by Teresa McLean

COURSE

The Sustainable Caregiver

With Teresa McLean

This course is for those who care deeply. For the ones who show up… who hold space… who tend to the needs of others—often without hesitation. And who, somewhere along the way, may have learned to place themselves last. Whether you are a parent, a practitioner, a partner, or someone supporting a loved one… this course offers a gentle space to return to yourself. Not through pressure or perfect routines… but through small, supportive moments that can begin to shift how you move through your day. Across six short lessons, you’ll explore: - the invisible weight many caregivers carry - how it’s possible to slowly lose connection with yourself in the role of caring - simple ways to support your nervous system in real time - your relationship with receiving—and how to open to it gently - boundaries as a form of self-support, not disconnection - and what it looks like to move forward in a way that includes you Each lesson is designed to be accessible and realistic—offering brief reflections and guided practices you can return to again and again. You don’t need a lot of time. Even a few minutes can begin to restore a sense of connection and support from within. This is not about doing it perfectly. It’s about remembering that you are allowed to be included in the care you give. You are not behind. You are not doing it wrong. You have been carrying a lot. And you don’t have to carry it alone.

Meet your Teacher

For more than 25 years, Teresa McLean has supported others through her work as a Registered Massage Therapist, helping thousands of people navigate pain, stress, trauma, and the demands of everyday life. Throughout her career, she has developed a deep appreciation for the emotional and energetic realities of caregiving—and for the importance of creating sustainable ways to care for others without losing yourself in the process. Drawing from her professional experience, her own journey as a neurodivergent parent and caregiver, and her extensive study of nervous system regulation, Teresa brings a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to wellbeing. Her teaching is grounded in the understanding that burnout is often more than physical exhaustion—it can be the gradual experience of becoming disconnected from yourself while continually showing up for others. Through her Insight Timer courses and meditations, Teresa offers gentle, practical guidance that combines nervous system awareness, mindfulness, self-compassion, and simple everyday practices. Rather than encouraging perfection or dramatic life changes, she helps listeners create small, meaningful moments of self-inclusion that support resilience, balance, and long-term wellbeing. The Sustainable Caregiver reflects both Teresa's professional expertise and her lived experience. It is an invitation to anyone who gives deeply—to discover that caring for others becomes more sustainable when they learn to include themselves in the care they so freely offer.

Lesson 1

The Invisible Weight Of Caring

Many caregivers carry more than what is visible. Beyond the practical tasks of caring for others, there is often an invisible emotional and energetic load—one that can quietly build over time, leading to fatigue, overwhelm, or a sense of disconnection from yourself. In this first lesson, you’ll be gently guided to recognize and understand the weight you may be carrying… without judgment. Through simple body awareness and reflection, this session offers a soft place to land—helping you reconnect with your own experience and begin to include yourself in the care you give. This is not about fixing anything. It’s about noticing. And beginning, gently, from there.

Lesson 2

When You Lose Yourself In The Role

In caregiving roles, it’s easy to slowly lose connection with yourself. Not all at once… but through small, consistent moments of prioritizing others’ needs, preferences, and emotions—often without even realizing it. In this lesson, we gently explore how this happens and why it makes sense. Through simple awareness and a guided reflection, you’ll begin to reconnect with your own preferences, your body, and your inner experience—without pressure or overwhelm. This is not about changing everything. It’s about remembering that you are still here… And beginning to listen again.

Lesson 3

Your Nervous System Matters Too

When you’re caring for others, your nervous system is often doing more than you realize. You may feel a constant sense of tension, or a quiet depletion that doesn’t fully resolve—even with rest. In this lesson, you’ll be introduced to a simple, realistic approach to supporting your nervous system through small, consistent moments of care. Rather than adding more to your day, this practice focuses on gentle awareness, softening, and micro-resourcing—helping you feel more supported from within. Even a few minutes can begin to shift how you move through your day.

Lesson 4

Receiving Without Guilt

For many caregivers, giving comes naturally. But receiving support… can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or even difficult. In this lesson, we gently explore why that is—and how patterns around giving and receiving are often shaped over time. Through a simple, guided practice, you’ll begin to notice your own relationship with receiving and explore what it might feel like to allow support in—just a little. This isn’t about forcing change. It’s about opening, gently, to the idea that you are allowed to be supported too.

Lesson 5

Boundaries That Sustain You

Boundaries can feel difficult—especially for those who are used to being open, available, and deeply caring toward others. In this lesson, we explore a softer, more accessible way of understanding boundaries—not as something rigid or harsh, but as a form of self-support. Through gentle reflection and body awareness, you’ll begin to recognize your own capacity, your limits, and what is truly yours to carry. This is where boundaries begin—not with force, but with awareness.

Lesson 6

A Sustainable Way Forward

In this final lesson, we gently bring everything together. Rather than adding more to your list, this session offers a soft integration of what you’ve explored—helping you begin to move forward in a way that includes you. Through guided reflection, you’ll connect with what sustainable caregiving might feel like in your everyday life—through small, realistic moments of self-awareness, support, and choice. This is not about doing it perfectly.
