Learn the basics of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), a psycho-therapeutic model with 40 years of science behind it. This micro-course will give you a basic exploration of ACT, a flexible model that gives us insights and tools to help us stay on track with what matters in life. Everyone struggles from time to time. Everyone takes their unhelpful thoughts seriously. Everyone struggles with uncomfortable feelings. Everyone gets unclear or has an imbalance in their values, their life direction, the things that they care about. And so, instead of asking ‘Who is act for?’ It’s better to ask ‘Who is ACT not for?’ Anybody that is interested about insights into the human mind & behaviour. Anybody that would like to gain some tools to help them stay more grounded in their external world, more receptive in their internal world, and more engaged in doing things that matter. So, let’s have fun. Let’s do this together. Learning these insights. Putting the tools into practice in this micro-course. I’ll be here in the classroom every day for any comments or questions that you may have. Lição 1
Driving The Bus of My Life
In day 1 we explore the core message of Acceptance Commitment Therapy. We look at, what are termed in behavioural psychology, as towards moves and away moves. We then explore driving the bus of your life, with the ‘Passengers on the Bus Metaphor’.
Lição 2
The Noticing Self (and The Noticing Switch)
In day 2 we explore the ‘Noticing Self’. We do this by starting with a metaphor, ‘The Blank Canvas’, then straight into a combined metaphor and tool called ‘The Noticing Switch’. These help us make sense, and ideally experience, the sometimes illusive nature of our consciousness.

Defusion - Looking At Thoughts, Not From Them
In day 3 we explore defusion, a psychological term that helps us not take our thoughts so seriously. We use ‘The Tinted Sunglasses’ metaphor. Then we have a little bit of psycho-education on the evolution of the human mind, how it's been designed for certain functions, but not to live a meaningful and happy life by default.

Acceptance - Making Room On The Inside
In day 4 we explore the ‘Struggling with an Emotion Monster’ metaphor. Then we have a little bit of psycho-education around emotions. Emotions as allies, not enemies. We also finish with an experiential exercise and a micro-check in practice to help us increase the skill of managing emotions in a healthy way.
Lição 5
Keeping Your Bus On Track
In our final day, day 5, we dive straight into a reflective practice that helps unearth some personal qualities, some values we have within us. Then we have an exercise that helps us choose from a list of these values. This is so that we can bring this into everyday life and formulate a personal touchstone.

I enjoyed this course because the information given was thourogh and quick to the point followed by practices to help our minds come into agreement. Ruben is personable and answers our (my) questions faithfully. I can tell that he isn’t selling A C T but sharing it; as the proof of it’s effectiveness is found and felt at the end of each day’s lesson.
