Right now in the lives of our preteens, technology is becoming a dominant feature - in their social, cultural, and educational lives. Research shows us that technology has the potential to empower and inspire our children but also has the potential to negatively impact their mental health. Like never before our kids need tools to help them stay aware, balanced, and in-control online. This 7-day introductory program has been cultivated to give preteens and teens knowledge and tools to face common day-to-day challenges online. Students can expect to: 1. Learn how to be more mindful of technology 2. Explore the impact devices have on our bodies and health 3. Get tips for how to deal with boredom (instead of reaching for a device) 4. Learn about phubbing and good ways to respond when it happens and 5. Explore friendships online and how to stay safe and connected using technology
Fiona Ghiglione is an Australian mindfulness teacher, Assistant Professor and researcher who works with mums to empower and connect them with their pre-teens in preparation for the adolescent years. In the final lesson of this course you’ll learn to see your phone in a new way. Just like cars, utensils and hammers - our phones are just tools. Tools that can help us do amazing things in our lives - or not. After this lesson you will get reflect on how to be the boss of your device every day.
