There are times in our lives when letting go is the most loving thing that we can do.
Letting go is a skill that we can learn.
Can release control,
Relax our grip,
And let life do what it does.
We then get to tend our feelings and land back in the flow of life.
We let reality and others be what they are.
We let ourselves be who we are.
So today,
Sit and practice with me.
If life is asking you to let go,
Listen to it.
Really,
Sometimes life knows better.
And yes,
For sure,
There are times when it is rightful to fight,
To figure it out,
To find new ways,
To try harder,
To insert more effort.
All of those things are needed and necessary in one life.
Will take us many,
Many places.
Determination is delightful.
If you're going hard for something,
I support you.
Yeah,
That will get you somewhere.
And at other times.
There's a holy prayer and utterance called,
I just can't.
And let go.
Letting go doesn't have to mean defeat.
We sometimes think that letting go is synonymous with surrender,
With collapse,
With catastrophe.
That we have to be laying on the floor wailing.
Yeah,
You can let your life go that far if you need to before you let go.
Or you can also just lighten your grip,
Not hold on so tight.
So here,
As we sit together,
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your shoulder blades slide down your back.
Notice that opens the front body.
It de-armors the heart a little.
Lift your chin a little.
Take a deeper,
Slower,
Softer breath.
Sink down,
Again not in a spirit of collapse,
But as a somatic way of lessening your fight response.
Let your body weight drop.
Let your palms and hands open.
Let your jaw soften.
And clench something in your body that's tight.
And then unclench something else that's tight.
And see if you can let your mind loosen its grip.
That's the hard part,
Isn't it?
Getting our mind to stop muttering and murmuring.
Getting our nervous system to stop forcing and figuring.
Letting go is an act of downregulation.
Of sealing and settling our own nervous system.
Of coming into contact with what is with an open heart from a still,
Soft place.
So take another deeper breath.
And invite in an openness to let go.
It might sound something like this.
Oh life,
I have tried so hard to get my way through this.
I have tried to get it the way I thought it should be,
The way I wanted it.
I have tried to control and corral this situation.
I have tried to get it to do my way.
To have my will be done here.
And I'm exhausted,
And I haven't got what I wanted.
Sir Life,
I'm giving this situation over to you.
I'm letting go and letting it drop.
I'm giving it to some greater thing.
That divine timings,
The way that things work out,
Or some sort of higher power.
Or just of a mystery.
I give up in the holy sense of the word.
I have done what I can.
And right now I'm going to pause.
And choose to center myself.
To settle my nervous system and to delight in this day knowing that I have done my best.
Their life and giving this situation over to you for a little while.
Please hold it for me.
Please hand light for me.
Please bring your wisdom and your way and let this unfold as it should.
Grant me the strength to be with it,
The courage to feel it.
Let myself know that my heart can handle this.
That I can find a good way through.
That life is backing me up with good solutions.
That this is not some mean Machiavellian universe that is here to hurt and harm me.
That it is just life doing life.
And that my heart can bear to be with her.
If you feel to say out loud any words that are personal to your situation right now.
Ask for help with what you need to let go of,
In your words,
In your way.
Then let's sit together quietly for a moment.
Feeling that something softens inside us when we let go,
When we hand it over.
When we let things drop.
So as we prepare to finish up,
Once again,
Unclench something.
Turn your palms face up.
Let your face soften.
Let your heart open.
Notice that you're staying with yourself in this hard moment.
That you're willing to let go.
To let life know how this should go.
That sometimes letting go is an act of supreme care.
Of Right Size Wisdom.
Notice that you can sit and hold your heart through heart links.
That you don't have to worry about how it will all turn out.
That you can simply stay with it and hand it over.
That there's more peace of mind here.
There's more space in your heart.
And it resets your body,
Replenishes you.
Restores you in a tricky type.
So as you go from here about your day.
Practice letting go.
Practice handing it over.
Practice letting it drop.
Your heart will munch its way through this situation in time.
Be prepared to be delighted.
We don't know how it's going to turn out.
Add a little spoonful of willingness to let it be great,
To let it be gorgeous,
To let it be good.
Know it may not go that way.
It's not guaranteed.
But as you finish up,
Add a dose of optimism,
A dose of hope.
A dance of heart.
And then just let go some more.
Thank you for your practice.
Letting go isn't a one and done thing.
But these sessions are beautiful starts.
Your body can learn this pathway.
It will get less stressful,
Less intense,
Less immense.
You're doing great in this tricky time.
I thank you.
Please come back and practice with me again.
Please keep Hannigan over.
And please,
Most of all,
Keep knowing that you have got this.
That you're ready for this,
That you will find a good way through.
So I send you a billion blessings for whatever you're moving through.
And so much love.
