So welcome to this sacred space,
To this place of transformation.
Come sit,
Rest down and get comfortable.
We're playing in the place between story of transformation and meditation.
This session will be a little of both.
So rest down,
And if it feels right to you,
Close your eyes,
Turn your energy inwards and let us begin.
Trust the cocoon when it comes calling for you.
We can tell when it is time to slow down and to simplify.
There are those times in our lives when we have to drop some of the doing,
The scrolling,
The shopping,
The running around.
There are times when our energy calls us inwards.
When we're called to drop the external and turn towards our inner world.
There are times when everything we thought we knew drops away and turns to mush.
When we have to simply go into the dark and sit with ourselves.
There are times when transformation is calling us and the only way out is to simply surrender into it.
I love the butterfly metaphor here.
We all know the story,
But today we're going to use it as a meditation,
As a guide to our own transformation and as a way to settle our own nervous system.
We all know how this story begins.
A caterpillar hatches from an egg and spends its whole life crawling along leaves,
Wiggling and squiggling along leaves,
Munching and crunching at the edges.
It also snacks on yummy greenness and all it knows is its own ways.
It hangs out with other caterpillars and they all munch away together.
It just simply knows how to move from where it is now to the next crawl forwards.
It's not a bad life.
It's all it can ever think of.
It can't see that anything could ever be different.
And then one day,
A caterpillar starts feeling something tugging at its own soul.
An intuition arises within it.
It starts feeling the pull to turn inwards,
To let go of what it has been doing,
To turn away from the other caterpillars,
To turn towards its inner world.
To be truthful,
I have no idea how much conscious thought a caterpillar actually has.
But I have a hunch that they don't go around googling what's happening to them.
They probably don't seek out self-help books for caterpillar dissatisfaction.
They simply trust their inner imperative to go inwards.
And so slowly and surely,
They take themselves away from what they have been doing.
They let some of that drop.
They turn.
And they start spinning their own cocoon.
They start weaving threads around them,
Pulling their energy inwards,
Letting go of external things.
Trusting the inner guidance to come into the cocoon and to surrender into the pull of that darkness.
As you listen,
Soften your shoulders.
Soften your hands,
All the parts of you that diligently do.
Soften your legs,
Your thighs,
Your hips,
All of you that has been walking through the world.
Let yourself come into a few moments of cocoon time.
Let the doing drop away.
Because you see,
My dear,
There are times in our own lives when our psyches will issue the same imperative to us.
When it will say to us oh so clearly,
In order to grow into all that you can be,
You have to drop what you have been doing and come in close to yourself.
Again,
In order to grow into all that you can be,
You have to drop some of what you have been doing and come in close to yourself.
So come now,
My dear.
Here is the time,
Here is a good time.
Come in close.
As you sit,
Slow your breath.
Still your body and soften.
Give yourself the gift of permission to turn your energy inwards.
To turn your focus away from the world.
To let your eyelids drop,
Your thoughts settle.
Rest.
Receive.
Turn away from the external.
Let things drop away and simply sit here in the practice space of this cocoon of your meditation cushion.
You see,
Something magical is happening here.
When a caterpillar lets itself go into the cocoon,
There are things called imaginal cells,
Literal physical cells that live within the caterpillar that give the caterpillar's body guidance.
And yet the caterpillar sometimes fights its own inner world.
Its old caterpillar form wants to stay as it is,
Safe,
Known,
Crawling along in its caterpillar community,
Doing what it has been doing.
Yet it has imaginal cells within it.
Maybe we have them too.
And these cells call to the caterpillar.
They say it's good to turn to mush,
To meditate,
To let it drop.
Something wonderful is happening here.
Let it all dissolve.
Trust in the process.
Trust in the process.
So even as the caterpillar sometimes fights itself and doubts its own intuition,
Even as it wriggles and wants to move,
Something magical is happening.
The pull to turn inwards grows,
And the voice of transformation comes to speak louder.
The caterpillar is called by some inner knowing within itself,
As we are called by some inner knowing within ourselves.
And so slowly and surely,
Things simply drop away in their own time.
The caterpillar surrenders into the sweet darkness.
It lets go of all that it has been and comes to simply sit with itself,
To be in the unknown for a while.
And oh my goodness,
This is where the magic happens.
To this caterpillar,
It feels like the end of its life,
The end of all it has ever known.
It feels like dissolving,
Like a disaster,
Like the end of everything that has ever been.
And yet it stays in the darkness,
Stays with its inner world,
Stays within,
Just as we can do.
So sit with me now,
In this dark,
In this cocoon for a few breaths,
Quietly together.
Rest down here and breathe and be with it.
Transformation is happening to you already.
You have good guidance within you.
Something happens in the darkness and the caterpillar can't possibly know what it is.
But by letting go and simply staying with what is,
Transformation comes calling.
Transformation happens to us.
It happens for us.
And it happens within us.
We do not have to do it or force it or figure it out.
The magic of life and of life cycles is moving for us,
Moving within us,
Moving around us.
We can trust it.
We can sit in it.
We can let it work its magic upon us.
And so slowly and surely one day,
This former caterpillar begins to wiggle and to stretch.
It can feel that something has changed.
It has come to trust in its intuition now.
It now knows that it has guidance within it.
It has come in close to its inner knowing.
The once caterpillar senses that it is time to turn back towards the world.
But something lighter and brighter than what it once knew is calling it.
And so it reaches and stretches and yawns and sighs.
Just as right now,
You might begin to reach and stretch and yawn and sigh.
And feel the fullness of your form.
The former caterpillar feels how much it has been given by this time of going inwards.
It knows that it has been replenished and that perhaps something new is possible.
This once caterpillar begins to break out of the cocoon.
And yet,
As it does this,
It's so gentle with itself.
It does not leap and force its way forward.
It has learned to trust the magic of going slow.
It has learned to treat itself with exquisite care along the way.
It has learned to honor its own transformation and to go forward gently,
Bit by bit.
And so this once caterpillar emerges from the cocoon,
Staying in close to its own body,
Its own body listening.
And it suddenly discovers it is not who it once was.
Something magical and magnificent has happened here.
The once caterpillar discovers it has wings.
It's dressed in beauty.
It has become more magnificent.
And that sitting in the darkness is the thing that has brought about that transformation.
And so it begins to pump up its wings.
To stretch them out.
As you might stretch the area between your shoulder blades and take up a little more space.
To reach your arms and feel the length of you,
The dignity of you,
The breadth of you,
The potency of you.
Caterpillar comes to recognize that it has become butterfly.
Caterpillar comes to recognize it has become a beautiful butterfly.
And that was by simply sitting.
And deeply letting go.
And transformation came calling for it.
Lo and behold there is a butterfly here with wings of wonder.
And it can do so many things that the caterpillar couldn't.
It can fly higher and see a wider perspective.
And so our butterfly begins to take flight.
To find itself amongst other butterflies with different amazing wind patterns.
That can swirl and whirl in the air together.
Our caterpillar discovers it can now drink deep from flowers.
And sip the honey nectar and suck in sweetness.
The butterfly knows that it is only by turning inwards.
By going into the darkness that has brought about this transformation into wholeness.
The butterfly knows that it is the journey through the dark.
That is letting it know the light,
The bright,
The good,
The sunshine,
The sweetness.
And so it lets itself savor this new form.
Find the flowers,
Be in the beauty,
Sit in the sun.
And so I'm sure you see the metaphor here in your own life,
My dear,
Don't you?
You feel the effect that meditating together today has had.
Maybe your nervous system is slowed some,
Your mind is more relaxed.
And you have a better sense of your own inner imperative.
It's literally tangible,
Isn't it?
This good that happens when we touch in with ourselves.
That when we stop doing and open to receive what is good and what is wondrous,
Life reaches in and helps us out.
I love this butterfly life cycle metaphor so much.
It is so simple and yet such a profound map of our own transformation.
We really do have to let it out.
Let it all go sometimes in order to move forward towards what we're meant to be.
We really do sometimes have to surrender in the darkness in order to find our fabulous new form.
And when we do that,
Such wonderful things happen.
When we don't seek to control our own transformation,
We end up in places that are literally beyond our wildest dreams.
Beyond anything we ever could have imagined.
Life takes care of us,
Supports our transformation,
Supports our growth.
And all we have to do is come in close to ourselves and slow down.
And so,
As our practice finishes today,
Remember this metaphor.
When you feel lost in day-to-day crawling forwards,
When there's nothing but munching and crunching to do,
Take time.
Come inwards.
Drop the outer world and spin your own cocoon of consciousness around you.
Know that you have good guidance within you,
That you contain cells of your future self calling you forth.
Know that by sitting and meditating and going inwards,
You support your own transformation.
Trust in the imperative of that.
Know that when you come in close,
Great things happen.
That you get to fly and shine after you have let it all go.
Trust in the potency of your practice.
Trust in the invisible inner wisdom within you.
And trust in the goodness and sweetness of your future self that is calling you forth,
Back into the light.
Thank you for your practice,
Dear one.
Bless all that you are becoming and your transformation into your most beautiful butterfly self.
You got this.
Www.
Mooji.
