Find a comfortable position.
You might be sitting or lying down.
Allow your body to settle.
Take a slow breath in through the nose.
And gently breathe out.
Again,
Breathing in.
You may be listening to this because someone's behaviour feels confusing.
One moment they feel warm,
Present,
Interested.
And another moment they feel distant,
Uncertain,
Hard to read.
When someone runs hot and cold like this,
The mind naturally starts searching for answers.
Replaying conversations,
Looking for signs,
Trying to understand what changed.
Sometimes these dynamics begin to work a little like a slot machine.
You never quite know when the reward will appear.
But every small moment of closeness makes the mind want to pull that lever again.
Your attention gets pulled outward,
Waiting for the next message,
The next signal,
The next moment of warmth.
Right now we're simply stepping out of that cycle.
Bring your attention back to your breath.
Breathing in slowly.
And breathing out slowly.
Notice your body.
Your chest rising and falling.
Your shoulders relaxing.
You don't need to solve the relationship in this moment.
You only need to return to yourself.
Take a slow breath in.
And gently release it.
Let your attention widen.
Notice the room around you.
The quiet steadiness of this moment.
Your peace does not need to depend on someone else's unpredictability.
Stay here with your breath.
This meditation is part of my Emotional First Aid series.
Short practices for moments when emotions feel overwhelming and your nervous system needs a gentle reset.
If this kind of connection feels hard to step away from,
You may also find support in my course when you know it isn't right but can't let go.
Here on InsideTimer.
But for now,
Take one more slow breath.
And gently return to your day.
