Our energy body,
Or our subtle body,
Is one of my favorite subjects.
For me,
The ability to be able to be really embodied within my physical body and then allow my awareness to open to become aware of my vitality and the energy processes within my being has been one of the biggest life-changing connections.
It has given me the ability to self-heal and continues to ground me on a daily basis.
It's a really nourishing resource for me.
As a young adult,
I was so stimulated by philosophies of Tibetan Buddhism and really interested in theories of quantum physics,
Which are both very similarly talking about our true nature of reality.
I was really inspired by concepts of deeper layers of consciousness and our energy within,
But once I became connected to my energy body through meditation,
It allowed me to experience this for real so that I was truly confident that it exists,
That it's not only just a lovely-sounding mystical theory.
It all starts and ends with letting go,
Continuously relaxing down into feelings and sensations within your body,
Allowing that spacious,
Open awareness.
And after a while,
You may get a sense of the aliveness within your body,
The vitality,
The vibrancy within.
You may feel something like an orchestra of different tones,
Feelings and nuances.
I will try to guide you gently into the experience of it,
Step by step,
So that you can really know it for yourself.
So let's begin firstly by finding a comfortable position where your body can really feel awake,
But really relax.
During this meditation,
Instead of me continuously talking,
I like to give you space to feel into your own experience,
Space to really relax and let go.
So when there's spaces of silence,
Please enjoy those and allow yourself to be really with your own experience.
I haven't left you.
I'm right here to guide you and support you.
Once you're comfortable,
Bring your awareness to your breath,
The breath within your body,
The awareness of your ribs,
Your lungs,
Your belly expanding and contracting with each in-breath and each out-breath.
If you get distracted,
That's fine.
Just gently bring your awareness back to your breath within your body,
Feel your body let go and melt down as you do that.
Keep doing that now,
Continuously noticing when you've drifted and gently bring your awareness back to your breath within your body.
Note how this feels for you as you relax.
Now make a subtle shift by putting your awareness on your out-breath as a resting and settling breath.
Allow yourself to follow the breath down into relaxation within your body.
If you notice any holding or contraction anywhere in your body,
Gently soften around it and allow it to relax and then gently come back to your out-breath and relax into feelings and sensations within your body.
Now take your awareness to the ground of your being,
To the sensations and feelings of the ground or the chair supporting you,
Of the sensations and feelings of the weight of your legs and really allow your whole body to deeply relax into that supportive sense of ground.
If at any time you feel yourself distracted,
Don't judge yourself.
Don't push the thoughts away.
Just allow them to be as they are and gently come back to the breath within your body and relax deeply down into the ground again.
Move your awareness slowly up into feelings and sensations within the trunk of your body.
Just notice anything that is there and give it space to be as it is and let go and relax.
Hold a sense of compassion for yourself and really let go of any judgments or pushing away or holding.
Just give everything space to be as it is and relax down into the ground,
Allowing everything to move as it needs to move.
Allow your awareness now to expand to the rest of your body,
Opening awareness out to your arms,
Your neck,
Your head,
Until you become aware of feelings and sensations within your whole body as you relax and breathe.
Now allow yourself to open to a more spacious sense of awareness.
This happens naturally by continuously,
Gently letting go,
Relaxing and letting your awareness open to a sense of spaciousness.
You may get a sense of the aliveness within your body,
Your life vitality,
The vibrancy within and you may get a sense that this vibrancy has different tones,
Different feelings and different nuances to it.
Until now we've had an awareness of something,
An awareness of the breath,
An awareness of the body and now we're opening to a sense of really being spacious awareness itself.
Quiet,
Present,
Open awareness.
If you notice yourself trying too hard or distracted,
You will probably notice some sort of holding or contraction within your body.
So again,
Gently let go,
Bring your awareness back to your breath,
Allow yourself to relax into your body and allow yourself to open to spacious awareness again,
To the vitality and the vibrancy within.
Coming back into our bodies is not necessarily easy for us or disembodied for a reason,
Spending most of our time distracted in our heads,
Busy with thought.
So sometimes getting in touch with our body isn't necessarily comfortable.
At the same time our bodies can give us a real sense of groundedness,
Of safety,
Of joy.
The trick is to continuously relax into feelings and sensations and the vitality of the body and really allow the movements of thoughts,
Emotions,
Pain,
Etc.
To just arise and move through as they need to.
Give everything space.
As you rest here within feelings and sensations and vitality of your body,
You might also feel a subtle sense of joy.
There is a natural joy that abides within each of us.
Somehow through our contracting,
Our holding,
Our judgments,
We tend to hold that joy down.
Now with a quiet,
Open,
Spacious awareness,
That spaciousness allows that natural joy to start to move and expand into our lives.
So just rest here for a while within feelings and sensations and vitality of your body.
Keep letting go.
Keep relaxing into the ground and really allow whatever is coming up and moving through,
Space to move as it needs to move.
Hold it with a sense of compassion,
A sense of love.
Keep coming back to the breath and back into the body if you need to.
Opening our awareness into the quality of the body and opening to a sense of our energy body can for some of us be challenging to connect to.
We're all different and move at different paces.
Just keep sitting.
Try to enjoy and try to hold the space with a sense of love without judgment.
If you struggle to connect to the energy within,
Just stay with feelings and sensations within your body.
You can gently keep becoming aware of different parts of your body,
Almost like you're inside a cave,
Shining a torchlight into different parts of the cave to see what's there.
This is the gateway to really start to open to the vitality and the vibrancy and the energy of your being.
As we bring this meditation to a close,
I'd like you to bring a sense of love to your heart,
A sense of pride for what you're doing.
Truly being in touch with ourselves,
With how we are doing on a deeper level,
Will really start to allow us to feel grounded throughout our days while letting the energy of feelings and emotions and pain move through us without disturbing us.
This is a really good place to be,
A place of calm,
Where struggles can move through and the vibrancy of life can be enjoyed.
