Trusting Life The purpose of this meditation is to feel a deep sense of trust in life,
A knowing that all is well,
No matter what seems to be happening on the surface.
Life knows what it's doing,
And there is vast intelligence and loving guidance working at all times through everything that happens.
This deeper wisdom is always bringing us home to awareness.
Sometimes it's hard to recognize this.
We are so conditioned to view life through a lens of doubt and fear,
And surface conditions can seem to back this up.
We're fed messages of fear and doubt everywhere we turn.
This colors our perception.
But the lens of fear and doubt is just a perspective,
A very limited and superficial perspective.
So for the short time of this meditation,
See if it's possible to momentarily set aside this lens of doubt and fear,
And engage wholeheartedly in seeing how trust in life is based on the evidence of experience.
What if trusting life flows naturally as you learn to see and feel how life is trustworthy?
We can learn to trust in life by recognizing the grace that abides underneath,
Within,
And through all events and circumstances.
We can learn to perceive a deeper flow and recognize how we are deeply loved and cared for as an integral part of life.
Trust can become an abiding mindset,
A way of looking at life based on seeing and feeling how things work out.
You've had moments when you've experienced this.
We'll call these moments to mind shortly after settling into awareness by tuning in to trustworthy,
Felt qualities in the body.
Let's begin by sitting comfortably upright,
With the soles of your feet firmly on the ground and your feet parallel with each other.
If it's comfortable for you,
Sit far enough forward so you feel some weight in your feet,
Perhaps far enough forward so your perineum is resting on the front edge of your seat.
Rest your palms cupped in your lap,
With the tips of your thumbs touching lightly in a receptive posture.
Lightly close your eyes.
Take a moment to check in inside.
Notice how you feel right now.
If you could sum up this feeling in a word,
Phrase,
Or image,
What would this be?
Consider your intention for this meditation.
Why is this important to you?
Consider dedicating your practice to the well-being of all beings.
Now,
Focus down into feeling your feet on the ground.
Awaken sensory awareness in the soles of your feet and feel the solid support of the ground underneath you.
Allow your feet and toes to soften and relax.
Feel as if you have roots down through the center of your feet,
Deep down into the earth.
Sense the stable,
Grounding presence of the earth.
Feel this grounding presence up through your legs,
Your hips.
Feel your pelvic bowl resting down in your seat.
Resting down into the stable support of the earth.
Focus into the sensations in your palms and fingers.
Awaken sensory awareness here.
Allow your hands to soften,
Open,
And relax,
Allowing them to rest down into the grounded support of your legs.
Let go even more so your hands become light,
Open,
And soft.
So light,
Open,
And soft that they feel like clouds floating in the clear blue sky.
As your hands soften,
Open,
And relax,
Allow your arms and shoulders to soften,
Open,
And relax down,
Releasing any tension in your shoulders and neck.
Soften,
Open,
And relax your head and shoulders,
Your chest and back,
Your torso.
Open,
And relax your hips.
Open,
And relax your whole body.
Now,
Imagine a string attached to the top of your head,
Drawing your spine gently upright,
Giving you a feeling of awakened clarity rising up through the core of your body,
Up through your spine,
And through the top of your head.
Enjoy the feeling of grounded presence,
Soft,
Relaxed openness.
Take a moment to record these felt qualities in every cell.
Grounded presence,
Soft,
Relaxed openness.
Really soak them in so you remember them.
These qualities are present here,
Now,
And ever available whenever you turn your attention to them.
You can trust these qualities to be here and arise anytime you need,
Simply by calling them forth.
Take a moment to appreciate this marvel of awareness that you are.
Awareness that can call forth whatever qualities are needed at any moment.
Awareness can embody any felt quality by focusing attention,
And can expand and grow in new ways of being by being open.
You can learn to trust these powers of awareness and attention by cultivating them daily in meditation and throughout your day by paying attention,
On purpose,
In the present moment,
Non-judgmentally,
Like a curious observer.
Now,
Turn your attention again to your body.
Your body itself is another source of trust.
Your heart beats,
Your lungs breathe,
And your body carries out countless functions,
24-7,
To maintain your life.
When it needs you to do something different to support its function,
It sends you signals and symptoms.
Have you ever considered how you implicitly trust this?
Thank your body for being so trustworthy.
Sources of trust are everywhere to be found if you look for them,
If you turn attention to them and are open.
Now,
Call to mind a time when everything felt just right in your life.
A time when you felt,
For whatever reason or for no reason at all,
That all was well.
A moment of peace and trust.
A moment when you felt held and cared for,
Or when things just felt good.
Choose one moment like this.
Recall where you were,
What you were doing,
Any prominent circumstances,
If you were with anyone,
And most importantly,
How that moment felt.
Step into that scene and really feel it as if you are living in it right now.
Soak in that feeling.
Absorb it in your cells.
Record this feeling in every cell to use as an inner landmark of trust in life that you can return to anytime.
Now,
Adopt the mind of a curious observer and recall a challenging time when things seem to be falling apart.
Pain and suffering is one of the ways we wake up and realize the need for change.
From your observational vantage point now,
Outside this past event,
Recall that moment when life was challenging.
Recall any prominent details of that experience,
Like a curious scientist making notes about it.
Now,
Play that scene forward until you see how things eventually resolved.
Make note of any resources,
Support,
Guidance,
Or learning that came as a result of that challenging moment.
Notice how things came together in ways you might not have imagined when that first moment happened.
Can you see how life resolved things?
Can you see any gifts that came as a result of that challenge?
Can you see a greater wisdom at work that helped you to learn and grow from that event?
Is there anything that still needs to be resolved from that moment?
If so,
From your vantage point now,
As a curious observer,
What can you still learn from it?
What can you take away that will help you now and in the future?
Can you see how life takes care of you?
How you have what you need when you need it,
And how things unfold with a wisdom that you sometimes don't recognize?
Now,
Let go of that moment and how it resolved and continues to resolve.
Thank life for what was given and what came forth.
Let's feel into now.
Just for this moment,
Set aside even the faintest whisper of doubt or fear and rest here,
Now.
Is it possible that all is well,
Just as it is in this moment?
Feel the presence of now,
Here.
Is it possible that you are surrounded by love and appreciation in ways and forms you haven't even imagined?
Is it possible that life's serendipities are ever-present,
Can be discovered each moment,
And are always flowing to support your well-being?
What happens if you open your mind to perceive them,
To notice synchronicities and meaningful coincidences?
What if you see everything as a gift and open to a deep sense of being held and provided for by life?
Feel the interconnectedness of all of life.
Feel the connection from your heart to your loved ones,
To your neighborhood and larger communities,
To all beings and the whole planet,
To the cosmos.
And,
Life is always creating new forms of life which respond to all the needs that are present,
And it all works together in ways beyond what we can fathom.
Can you feel a love that holds you and is always working for your well-being and the well-being of all?
Can you see that as an expression of life,
A cell in the body of life,
You are connected and cared for?
All you have to do is recognize the countless ways this is so.
You are held and cared for.
Life is trustworthy.
Feel this in your heart,
Into a deep sense of trust in life,
Trust back into being supported and held by life,
And trust that underneath it all,
All is well.
No matter what sometimes seems to be happening on the surface,
There's a deeper,
Stable presence and supportive ground underneath the appearance of changing circumstances.
Life knows what it's doing,
And there is vast intelligence and loving guidance working at all times through everything that happens.
This deeper wisdom is always bringing you home,
Home to awareness,
Soothing,
Feeling.
Notice how you feel now.
Record this feeling of deep trust in every cell of your body so you remember it.
Bring it with you.
Share it with others,
And can return to it anytime.
Slowly,
Very slowly,
Begin to open your eyes.
What would it be like to look through the eyes of trust and perceive everything that happens through this lens?
What would it be like to move through life with a deep feeling of trust,
Sensing a deeper purpose to everything that happens,
And tuning in to a stable,
Loving presence guiding every step of the way?
Take a moment to write down anything you'd like to remember from this meditative experience,
Along with any insights and inspirations.
Well done.
