Working With Fatigue And Low Energy

With Kate Plummer

Fatigue requires a different approach to yoga practice. When energy is limited, adding more effort or stimulation does not always improve how we feel. In many cases, practice needs to become simpler and more precise so that it supports stability rather than increasing demand. In this course, we explore how breath, pacing, and structure influence whether practice helps the system feel more settled or more depleted. You will learn how small adjustments can make practice more sustainable and easier to continue, even when capacity is reduced. The course also includes references to short Premium tracks that include practices demonstrating how these ideas can be applied in simple and practical ways. Suitable for anyone experiencing fatigue, burnout, low energy, or fluctuating capacity.

Meet your Teacher

Kate Plummer is a yoga teacher and mentor specialising in the Viniyoga approach. She has been studying and teaching this tradition for more than 15 years, with a particular interest in how breath, pacing and adaptation influence the effects of practice. Her teaching emphasises sustainable, individualised approaches to yoga rather than one-size-fits-all methods. Drawing on both traditional principles and lived experience of working with fatigue and fluctuating energy, she focuses on practices that support steadiness, clarity and long-term continuity. Kate teaches students and yoga teachers internationally through courses, mentoring and ongoing study programmes.

Lesson 1

Why Fatigue Needs A Different Approach To Practice

When energy is limited, practices that normally feel manageable may begin to feel overly demanding or overstimulating. This lesson explores why fatigue changes how the system responds to effort, pacing and stimulation. We look at why more intensity does not always produce better results, and why steadiness often becomes more important than effort. The lesson introduces a more measured approach to practice that supports stability rather than additional strain. If you'd like a simple starting point, the Premium track "Gentle Morning Practice When Energy Is Low" provides a short practice that can be used regularly to explore these ideas in a practical way.

Lesson 2

Why Some Yoga Makes You More Tired

This lesson explores some of the reasons yoga practice may increase fatigue rather than reduce it. We look at the effects of excessive stimulation, cognitive load, breathing strain and uneven pacing on a system that already has limited capacity. The lesson also considers why simpler and more predictable practices are often easier to integrate when energy is low. The emphasis is on recognising whether practice leaves the system feeling more stable or more depleted afterwards. If you want to explore this further, the Premium track "When You Feel Tired But Wired" demonstrates how small breathing adjustments can help reduce internal urgency.

Lesson 3

Avoiding Energy Crashes After Practice

Sometimes practice feels manageable during the session but leads to increased fatigue later on. In this lesson we explore how pacing, continuity and moderate demand influence recovery after practice. We look at why finishing before exhaustion often produces more sustainable results, and how small adjustments can help prevent unnecessary depletion. The lesson also introduces some early signs that practice may be exceeding current capacity. This lesson is supported by the Premium track "Resting Without Losing Stability" which provides a guided approach to recovery that maintains gentle organisation.

Lesson 4

Sustainable Practice When Capacity Is Limited

When energy is unpredictable, sustainability often becomes more important than intensity. This lesson explores how moderate, repeatable practice can support greater stability over time. We look at the importance of adaptation, reducing unnecessary complexity and working with present capacity rather than idealised expectations. The emphasis is on creating practices that remain manageable enough to continue consistently.
