Lesson 1

What's The Difference Between Mindfulness & Meditation?

Both mindfulness and meditation teach us to be present on purpose in the moment. They teach us how to be aware of our thoughts & our emotions without judgement. Both mindfulness & meditation can also enable us to develop the ability to deliberately activate the part of our nervous system associated with rest & relaxation rather than fight or flight. This in turn can influence how we respond when we feel, for example, worried or stressed. Practising either mindfulness or meditation can help us to proactively build the connections in our brains that enable us to stay calm & present both in our everyday life & when we encounter difficult situations or emotions. However, mindfulness & meditation are not exactly the same. In this lesson we explore what the difference is & how can understanding this can help us. Please search for the 'Take 2 playlist' on Insight Timer to find the referenced 'Mini 10 Breath Meditation' track.

Lesson 2

How Mindfulness Works & The Benefits Of Developing A Practice

In this session we explore how mindfulness can help us to build new connections in our brains so that, over time, we can change our automatic thoughts, feelings & behaviours in response to difficult situations. We consider different, research based, benefits of developing a consistent mindfulness practice. The session includes a short visualisation so is best completed at a time, & in a place, where you're able to pause & safely close your eyes for a few moments.

Lesson 3

What If There Were No Such Thing As A Negative Emotion?

In this lesson we explore how the language we use when we think & talk about emotions can make it harder for us to acknowledge, & therefore manage, how we're feeling. We consider a different way of thinking about emotions which can, in turn, change how we respond when we experience difficult emotions. This session invites you to identify a couple of meditation tracks you enjoy. Please search for the 'Take 2 playlist' on Insight Timer to find the referenced guided 'Mini Calming Meditation' or 'Satie for Meditation' music mentioned in the audio. Alternatively you could explore the Insight Timer library & create a list of tracks that resonate for you.

Lesson 4

The SNAPP Model Of Mindfulness

This week we’re going to start exploring the SNAPP model of mindfulness with its three pillars: stop & notice, allow, be present on purpose. In this lesson I’ll be talking about the first pillar - stopping & noticing - & how this can help us when we’re experiencing uncomfortable emotions. The session includes a short visualisation so is best completed at a time, & in a place, where you're able to pause & safely close your eyes for a few moments. Please search for the 'Take 2 playlist' on Insight Timer to find the referenced meditations titled: 'Mini Mindfulness Activity - Leaf' or 'In Your Eyes' by Weston Brown.

Lesson 5

Events, Thoughts, Feelings & Responses

This week we’re going to explore the second part of the SNAPP model & the idea of 'Allowing'. As well as being allowing of internal experiences such as recognising & feeling our emotions, in mindfulness we can also learn how to be more allowing of external situations & experiences. In this lesson we consider how it's not events which shape our feelings but our thoughts about those events. We'll consider how we can build on this understanding to start to feel & respond differently, even when faced with challenging situations. The session includes a short visualisation so is best completed at a time, & in a place, where you're able to pause & safely close your eyes for a few moments. This track includes a short visualisation.
