Lesson 1
Meditation Is Often Misunderstood
If you are curious about meditation, it is likely that you already have experienced one or more of the gateways into mediation without realizing it. There is a natural response the body has called the relaxation response, also known as meditation. This is as natural as the stress response known as fight, flight or freeze. Both of these responses are our natural instincts. Everything has an opposite in our world, and the opposite of the stress response is the relaxation response. Because it is talked about much less, it is less understood, less obvious and misunderstood. There are at least 112 doorways into meditation, and everyone has experienced a gateway in the form of a meditative moment in their life. This course will help you uncover yours, so that meditation becomes accessible to you.

Lesson 2
Understanding The Role Your Breath Plays
If you believe, like I did, that stress is beyond your control, you will learn here that you can bring your body into a relaxed state with a simple, deep, slow breath practice. Deep slow breathing activates your vagus nerve, turning on your parasympathetic nervous system which helps you physically relax, reducing your anxiousness, restlessness and stress. Deep, slow breathing tones your vagus nerve, which is home to over a million nerve endings in your gut. You need to do more than tone your muscles, your nerves need toning too! Before I learned this, I did not understand the role that my breath played or that I even had a vagus nerve that holds the key to a long healthy life. Practice breathing deep and slow when you are relaxed and then when you start to feel stress you change your state with this breath practice, turning off your fight-or-flight sympathetic nervous system response, bringing your body back to pre-stress levels, enhancing mental clarity and emotional resilience.

Lesson 3
Understanding The Role Your Heart Plays
Your heart has a natural rhythm that is meant to speed up and slow down all the time, known as heart rate variability (HRV). This measures your heart's coherence—the healthy fluctuation in beat-to-beat intervals of your heart rate. The heart can speed up and slow down in a chaotic pattern known as incoherence or in a rhythmic pattern known as coherence.

Lesson 6
Finding Your Natural Gateways Into Meditation
Did you know that there are at least 112 gateways to enter a state of meditation? You find these gateways by exploring your meditative moments, the natural gateways your body has already found. These experiences prove to you that you are already meditating.
Have you ever...
• Gazed up at the night sky, feeling a rush of awe and amazement at the infinite expanse above?
• Lost yourself completely in the embrace of your favourite music, surrendering to its rhythm until you became one with the symphony of sound?
• Inhaled a scent so tantalizing, so mouthwatering, that it nearly overwhelmed your senses, transporting you to a place of sheer joy?
• Sat by a flowing river, attuned to its gentle cadence, and slipped into a profound state of tranquility?
• Been so deeply in love that your heart felt weightless, as if it might float away on a cloud of pure affection?
Then you have already experienced meditative awareness. These are all spontaneous experiences, typically lasting from a few seconds to a few minutes. Attention expands beyond its confines and touches something greater, something of the essence of life. These experiences are as old as humanity itself, transcending language and culture, reminding us of the magic woven into the fabric of our lives.
