Visualized Nadi Shodana Breath
by Louise Baird
Nadi shodana (alternative nostril breathing) is a pranayama practice that can balance the flow of energy in your body, as well as the left and right hemispheres of your brain. It is also highly supportive of the functioning of the respiratory system and improves oxygen absorption. This visualized nadi shodana breath practice is an alternative to the traditional seated version. It is to be done lying down, without the use of your hands. This position emphasizes the relaxing properties of the breath practice while offering support to your respiratory system, and bringing balance to your mind and body. As a visualized practice you may find this version of the practice more meditative than the seated practice, supporting your focus and concentration. You will be invited into short breath holds, if it feels right for you. If you are pregnant it is important not to hold your breath at all, so as not to disturb the flow of oxygen to your baby.
