Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me,
Liz Scott,
Up and about on Dartmoor.
In the evening,
The sun is dipping behind the hillside.
In the near distance,
I can see sheep.
I can see a Dartmoor pony.
It looks like a foal just moving gently,
Gracefully across the ground.
I can hear the pigeons in the background.
I don't know if you can hear them.
And I'm today just continuing a reflection really that I started yesterday and I was talking yesterday about the distractions of thought and what I miss when I get lost in thought.
And I want to continue this exploration about thought and stories because there's something about falling out of stories,
Falling out of habitual thinking that has a sense of being releasing and freeing.
There's a sense of freedom,
I find anyway,
When habitual thoughts,
Thoughts that I often get caught in thought loops or thought storms,
When they disappear,
What's left?
Now,
The conventional way of dealing with unwanted thoughts or stories or unhelpful thoughts or limiting beliefs is to get busy trying to get rid of them.
And if you've been following me here on Five Minutes in Nature,
You'll know that that's not what I advocate.
For me,
It just doesn't work.
Getting busy trying to get rid of thought,
Well,
That's the equivalent of shaking up a snow globe when you're trying to have it settle.
It just doesn't work.
But what seems to work is that when unhelpful and old thought patterns have run their course,
They move off on their own accord.
When I came across the Inside Out Understanding,
The Three Principles,
I was very much entrenched in the world of conventional coaching with conventional tools and techniques.
And I came across the Three Principles,
Also known as the Inside Out Understanding.
Please do listen to my course on the Three Principles if you want to know more.
But I came across this understanding And it really transformed the way I turned up to life.
And I couldn't understand or explain why.
I now know it's not an intellectual understanding.
It's an experiential understanding.
It's an understanding that had me catch sight of my true nature,
True self.
And in doing so,
I began to realize what was absolutely true in my life and began to distrust the thinking and thoughts and stories that I had once thought was so true.
And ruled my life.
And when I came across the Insider Understanding,
I really wanted to share it with my clients,
But I didn't feel ready to do it because I didn't fully understand what was going on for myself.
And a teacher told me,
And I asked her,
I said,
You know,
What should I do?
Should I stop using all these tools and techniques,
Which I'm no longer sure are absolutely the most helpful thing to share with people,
But I don't know what else to share.
And she was really wise.
She just said,
Look,
You will find that when the tool and technique no longer has value for you,
It will naturally fall away.
It's like a child's tiring of playing with toys,
Dolls or picture books.
Naturally,
They fall away.
There's no great effort required in stopping that.
And sure enough that's exactly what I found is that the deeper I began to understand my true nature.
The less I was inclined.
To tell people about tools and techniques because really what I wanted them to do was to experience their true nature.
And what I found is that as I release these thoughts and thought patterns and beliefs,
Or maybe it's better to say,
Or more accurate to say,
When they no longer have that hold over me,
I find myself more and more deeply nourished and a sense of freedom in letting go of these stories.
And ideas.
My husband,
He went to the tip today,
There were old books and bits and pieces,
An old printer that no longer worked,
And different things and clothes that he no longer wore,
And he just took some things to the charity shop and thumbed things down to the tip.
And he came back and he said,
Oh,
It feels wonderful to get rid of all that stuff,
I feel freer.
And it just resonates for me is that when we no longer need things,
When we no longer need things,
It makes sense just to pass them on,
To get rid of them.
When we no longer need stories or limiting beliefs,
We can just let them go.
They no longer have power over us.
And what opens up with letting these thoughts go is a real sense of freedom and release.
That's what I'm reflecting on today,
And I'd love to know your reflections on that too.
And of course,
Don't forget to join me again tomorrow for another five minutes in nature.
