Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott.
God it's a beautiful day.
I'm actually up on Exmoor so my usual route is on the moorlands of Dartmoor but I've come up to Exmoor today.
It's in the neighbouring county and over the course of the last few months my sister and I have been following the source of or have been following the River X from Exmouth and it goes through Exeter and we've been following it all the way up in little chunks all the way up to Exmoor and the River X rises on Exmoor and that's how it got its name and we've just managed to get to the head of the X now and it's like a a small puddle of water that dribbles down and heads its way off the moors down off the moors gathering more and more water as it goes from little tributaries that join it and today we've been walking up towards the head of the River X and so we've been following this tiny little stream walking across some very tough challenging terrain,
Marshy grounds,
We've had walking poles,
Wet feet,
Up steep hills,
Lots of reedy grass,
Very hard to keep your footing.
It's been tough tough going at times and the moorland now and the views that we've got are just spectacular.
At one point we saw a herd of deer,
Exmoor is famous for its deer and the view at the moment I can look actually across the north towards Wales on that high up and the moorland is a green and a orangey brown it's the height of spring there are butterflies flitting around and there's nobody here it's just me and my sister and coming up to the source of the X and today being the final day has felt like a huge achievement and for me it's just a reminder about coming back to source.
You see I find that whenever I get a little bit lost in life I get lost in confused thinking or unsettled or I'm concerned about the future or I start rewinding things that have happened in the past whenever my mind becomes unsettled with insecure thinking I know that the only answer the only answer is to come back to source and what do I mean by that well I mean with the river I suppose it's it's it's simple isn't it you just follow the river and you keep the river on one side of you and you just keep following it until you get right back to source and it's not so different really when it comes to coming back to source in myself because what I know absolutely is that there is no solution to be found in trying to fix my thinking or trying to settle my thinking or trying to feel better or change my thinking what I do know though is if I bring my attention within and I've actually got a wonderful visual now of this because I can visualize the source of the x here which is this sort of pool of water if I bring my attention within to that pool of water within me it's like I'm going directly back to the source the source of who I truly am and the source of who I truly am is the same as the source of who you truly are if you were to have the same visual of this source and wherever you are in the world and you were to bring yourself back to source we would be seeing the same thing we would be seeing the same source of the river x in our imagination and we can imagine that the same source of ourselves is like the same source of the river x we are coming back to the same energy so whatever you wherever you are and whatever difficulties you find yourself in the first step is to bring your awareness back to the truth of who you are because when you do that when I do that I find that I am on stable ground I know who I am I feel resourced and from that place I know how to take the next step and in life that's all you need to do is just know how to take the next step so today is just a reminder as I stand here at the source of the river x is a reminder for you and all of us to come back to the source of who we truly are when we find ourselves in times of need
