Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott up on the moorland of Dartmoor in a very thick mist.
It's very drizzly and damp.
You might be able to hear the rattle of rain on my raincoats hood and I am sheltering behind a gorse bush,
Behind a gorse bush because there is a bit of a southwesterly wind.
I wanted to stay as dry as possible and on these days when we're in December when the light is low when there's a mist and it's grey there's a real flatness to the landscape and it occurred to me as I was walking up that when we're in the midst of this time of year and the nights are so long and the days are so short and any inclement weather brings the level of light down so that it feels very dimpsy and dark it can feel as though this is going to last forever it can feel as though this darkness is going to stay for always and yet I know that that's not true because I know that we are in the midst of a season I know that when we reach the shortest day of the year we will start moving back towards light I know that spring will return and that knowing never leaves me even though it might be a miserable dark December day I know that it is not forever and I find this really helpful to remember not just with the weather but for with what I go through in my life as well when I have moments and patches and times of feeling flat and low sometimes it's temporary it might be just during the day sometimes it might last for a few days but when I feel that darkness in my life and that sadness and that sort of sense of slowing down wanting to hibernate and shut the world away even though that feeling is strong a bit like the mist and the rain and the darkness here today in my bones I know that it will not last forever and that knowing that deep knowing that spring is on its way the spring of my moods of my feelings of a different phase of life just knowing that means that I walk on solid ground and today is just a reminder for you if you are going through a patch in your world in your life at the moment which is really hard if you're finding things challenging if you're feeling low and sad know that it will not last it is there with you right this minute but it will change like the seasons change like the weather changes like the day changes day changes to night the weather changes from rain to sun and the seasons change from coldness to warmth so today is just a bit of reassurance that whatever the weather you are experiencing in your life at the moment it won't last and if you're feeling as if things are really challenging for you and you feel quite low and flat it will not last know that the energy of life itself is still present it might be dormant but it's still present and it will come forth again and in that knowing in knowing that this sadness this feeling of lowness this low feeling this low mood is not going to last in the knowing of that it makes it much easier to navigate so today is just a reminder a reminder that bringing your awareness within bringing it back to that sense of knowing bringing it back to a place of love of energy of universal connection even if that feels covered over a bit like the sky is completely covered over by the cloud and the mist today know that that universal energy that energy of life itself is still present it is still there and know that the feelings that you're feeling at the moment will move on today is a message of hope and it's just for you to realize that if you're feeling low it will not last and to look within to that space of connection and love which will break through the clouds at some point in the future
