Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott and you join me at the end of February as I am out and about as always listening to nature's wisdom and as we reach the end of the month I know that spring is coiled ready to leap into action.
Spring is springing!
I can see it all around me,
Flowers poking out of the ground,
Campions starting to bravely come through and flower in their lovely gorgeous pinkness,
The wild garlic is gathering strength,
Everything is awakening and pushing through and waking up and it just struck me this is the time of year I love the most.
I love March and I love April,
I love the way that the hedgerows around me start to blossom and grow with the different flowers and plants that seem to just take in turns in this extraordinary choreographed movement of life in growing and flowering and speckling hedgerows with different colors of yellows and purples and pinks and blues and often what happens in March and April is that it just seems to go so quickly not only do the seasons seem to speed up with the amount of life and plants that are growing so my life speeds up.
Today is a reminder as we reach the end of February that it's time to savor and notice spring as she comes into full glory,
For me that is,
And it's time I'm requesting that you do the same too,
Just to notice and give time and energy and space to spring as she takes flower and takes root and grows in front of your eyes.
I often think that spring is a bit like a piece of classical music and it's like imagine the beginning of a classical piece of music where maybe it's very quiet and you have a few flutes and maybe a few violins and the cello gently awakening the piece of music and bringing it to life and then suddenly the orchestra strikes up and the piece of music moves from being slow to moving into a fast tempo and suddenly you're caught up in the energy of the piece of music and that for me is a bit like spring.
It starts off with a few flutes like the primroses and the crocuses and snowdrops and then a few violins and that's when the wild garlic comes up and the magnolias and azaleas start to come out as well and the whole of spring starts to flourish in front of me like a piece of orchestral music.
It starts to warm up and take shape and take form and if you're not careful you miss it,
So don't miss it this year.
Allow yourself time to really immerse yourself in spring as she awakens.
I'm going to be heading on a pilgrimage during March and April and part of the joy of this pilgrimage is I know that I will be able to walk through the season of spring.
Walk and notice the hedgerows and the different flowers on each day.
I'm going to tell you more about this pilgrimage in later reflections but I just wanted to say to you today is there anything that you might do and I don't mean walk a pilgrimage but is there any daily habit you might engage in or something you might do during the next few weeks just so that you too notice the beauty of spring as she emerges so that you too can listen to the quietness of the primroses which are like the flutes playing in the orchestra that you too can welcome along the burgeoning and beautiful plants and flowers that start to come into existence at this time of year.
So today it's about noticing spring as she takes shape and giving yourself a bit of time to reflect and see and name and be present to the plants as they come through at this time of year and I'll be continuing my five minutes of nature into March and I do hope you'll join me then.
