Tiny Practices – Creating A Regular Daily Mindfulness Practice With Ease

With Lila Grace

Little and often is the key to a flourishing mindfulness practice which brings balance and peace to your life. Creating a regular mindfulness practice is no easy task. Carving out space in the busyness of life is not always simple, but it may not be as hard as you think. You don’t need to find a long stretch of time in silence, without disturbance, regularly each day. Mindfulness can be practiced in amongst the activities of life. Research shows that little and often is the key. Together on this 3-day course we discover some of the simple practices that you can take away and pepper into your day. These practices range from 3 breaths long to 15 minutes. They draw on ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience to find peace, relaxation, focus and joy.

Lesson 1

Discovering How Powerful Something Tiny Can Be

Let’s step into the world of tiny practices together, discovering how we can take a pause in our day to ground, centre and relax. Today we meet the breathing space. A practice that allows us to open to our experience just as it is, gathering in the wandering mind and then open to the world around us. At the end of each session I am going to set you a challenge to integrate the practices we learn together into your day. Bringing creativity and playfulness into discovering where and how you might find yourself a mindful moment. To support you along the way I have created a Tiny Practices playlist, here on Insight Timer. So you can carry these practices with you in your pocket for whenever you want them in the day.

Lesson 2

Peace In The Storms Of Life

How has your exploration of tiny practice gone so far? We are all on this journey together, perhaps you would like to share the gems you have found along your way or the challenges you have met. Today we explore a practice which is perfect for when we meet challenge on our path. A short simple practice to offer compassion to ourselves in moments of struggle. Take a break, just for a moment, take a compassion break. Today we discover the compassion break, bringing mindful awareness, a sense of common humanity and self-compassion to our current experience.

Lesson 3

Opening The Next Chapter Of Practice

Today is the final day of our Tiny Practices journey together but not the end of the story. Hopefully you will have found places in your day for peace and to ground through these Tiny Practices. If not keep exploring where these might be. This is not failure, just discovery of what does not work right now. And we have one more Tiny Practice to meet, the Settling Practice. This grounding exercise is perfect as a standalone practice or to centre before you step into a new activity, be that perhaps a longer practice, yoga or a period of reflection. It is also a great practice to use in the middle of your day as you move from one activity to another. As this part of our journey closes remember, I am here to answer any questions you may have, be that now, or when you practice in the future. It takes time to build new habits so you may like to do this course more than once. And as always, the fantastic practices on Insight Timer are here to offer fresh Tiny Practices to your day, day after day. I will add more practices to the Tiny Practice playlist as time goes on. So, the last thing to say is, thank you. Thank you, for being on this course, for practicing with me and everyone else here. And thank you for carving out the space, in the busyness of your day, for these Tiny Practices. Go well.

The teacher was awesome, the pace was just right. This class was unique because I tend to think that longer classes that are say 30 minutes to an hour are more effective, but I’ve learned that tiny practices are just as important and necessary. It’s easier and sweeter and feels like you’ve stolen time when you slip away for this wonderful 9 minute tiny practice, you go away feeling so refreshed!
