Stillness, Silence, Spaciousness
by Beth Ciesco
This meditation features the 3 precious pills of stillness, silence, and spaciousness. Known as the antidotes to stress, these qualities are revealed as we cease activity, quiet and empty the mind, and unpack and release tension. This short practice will serve you well when you want to enter into the tranquility of the present moment.

Hello,
Welcome to this meditation honoring stillness,
Silence,
And spaciousness.
My name is Beth and I'll be guiding you.
Please come to a comfortable seated position with your spine straight,
Allowing for the flow of energy through the channels of the spine.
As you sit,
You might want to rock a little side to side to feel your sit bones in either your chair or on the floor.
Grounding through the feet,
You're welcome to meditate with your eyes open or closed.
Now just begin to notice your breath.
Our breath brings us fully into the present moment as we become aware of sensation and gentle movement.
Despite any movement of the breath,
Notice that your body has become still.
Stillness,
Silence,
And spaciousness are the essence of meditation.
We might think stillness is something we do.
We make ourselves still and it is in a way.
It's a decision we make.
But let's go deeper.
Let's go to a stillness that is always present and in which all movement arises.
So allow yourself to drop into deep awareness of stillness.
Maybe now you begin to notice another quality is present,
That of silence.
Stillness and silence tend to accompany each other.
In fact you might even find there's really no difference between the two.
Silence is the antidote to all the noise in our heads,
Not just the external noise in our lives or environments.
In silence there's room for every sound.
Now you are aware of stillness and silence as another quality may arise,
That of spaciousness.
Sometimes we think of space as being empty.
Space is truly vast but full as it contains everything.
And so we say spaciousness is the antidote to constriction,
To tension.
Maybe you can even feel yourself unfolding into space as you relax and soften.
Rest in stillness.
Rest in silence.
Rest in spaciousness.
Now as you prepare to return,
Maintain that sense of stillness,
Silence and spaciousness.
Always present,
Always available.
Let's dedicate the merits of this practice to all beings in need of these three precious pills.
May all beings be free from suffering.
May all beings know peace.
Thank you for joining me today.
That ends this meditation.
