Welcome everyone.
Thank you for being here in this meditation circle.
As we settle,
Let's bring our awareness to this shared space.
Allow ourselves to breathe in the energy of the room in which we sit together.
The intention for this meditation is to believe in the mystery of gratitude.
If you'd like to set an intention for this practice,
You're welcome to do so now.
To indicate the start and end of our meditation,
You will hear two rings of the singing bowl.
Ringing a bowl or chime is a soothing sound for the mind and body.
It honors this moment of self-care and signals to our mind and body that it's time to settle into the present moment.
Before we get started,
Be sure you are comfortable.
Make any adjustments needed to settle into a safe and nurturing space.
You may be on a cushion or chair.
I invite you to find your center of gravity just below the navel and allow the weight of your body to naturally ground into the earth.
Your sitting position should feel grounded.
So take a moment to feel the areas of your body in contact with your sitting location.
Ideally we would like the knees to be below the hips and you may achieve this by sitting a little higher on a couple cushions on your chair or raising yourself if you're on a cushion on the floor.
You may be cross-legged or kneeling with your knees forward and your feet behind.
In the chair you may want to add a lumbar support if you'd like.
Notice the shoulders and relax them by releasing away from the ears.
The chin is slightly towards the chest to allow for optimum breathing.
Your hands can be in your lap or on your thighs,
Even on a pillow in your lap,
However it's the most comfortable to you.
Now turning inward we soften our gaze either by closing the eyes or focusing on a neutral spot on the ground in front of us.
Let's begin our practice now.
Beginning with three cleansing breaths longer than usual and allowing a slow sigh if it feels comfortable on the out-breath.
As we proceed with our meditation become interested in your breath.
It's our home base and we invite gratitude and humility to the home of our breathing.
The breath has four parts,
The inhale and in-pause,
The exhale and out-pause.
In the pauses is stillness.
As we follow the breath I invite you to imagine the breath as ocean waves.
The in-breath is the wave going out to sea building strength.
There's a slight pause as the wave curls.
The exhalation is the wave coming into the beach with a slight pause as the wave settles into the sand.
Continue watching your breath like waves ebbing and flowing.
When thoughts come into your awareness let them arrive with equanimity.
We don't try to push them away we just notice them and come back to the breath with kindness and humility.
I invite us to curl our lips slightly into a smile which generates feelings of warmth and friendliness.
Each time you find your attention wandering smile and return home to the breath.
I invite us that to consider gratitude as this moment of stillness and humility where we tap into the heart.
Noticing the warmth there continuing to encourage a slight smile and allowing any thoughts that come to mind of things people experiences for which we are grateful.
Noticing any surrounding sounds as well and being grateful for that connection that we have with our environment.
Gratitude is different from being thankful.
Thankful is something that seems expected when we receive from others and yet gratitude is a humble and quiet type of feeling where we tap into our heart.
At this time for gratitude we also acknowledge gratitude for the breath that we have.
Breathing in I know I am breathing in.
Breathing out I know I am breathing out.
And in those pauses on the in-breath and the out-breath bringing a smile to the face and anything that comes to mind for which we are grateful.
You may pause this audio at this time and continue on your own for as long as you can or wish to and come back when you're ready.
Smiling.
Million possibilities.
This moment we share.
The silence in this moment.
Gratitude for that which is,
Which was,
Which will be.
This present moment is complete.
And here it comes again.
Thank you for your practice.
