Welcome to focus,
Like,
And egress.
Just take a moment to settle into your comfy space,
Warm and cozy.
Feel your body begin to soften.
Your shoulders relax.
And just allow your hands to rest easily.
Softly close your eyes.
Settle into this moment.
Take a slow breath in.
And a long breath out.
Slow breath in.
And as you gently release,
Let go of any stress or tension.
So maybe your attention has been pulled in many directions recently.
Tasks,
Conversations,
Responsibilities.
Thoughts about your future.
Thoughts about your past.
Unlike many people.
You have spent much of your day responding rather than choosing.
Reacting rather than directing.
So over time attention can become a little scattered.
And when this happens,
Our energy often follows.
Sometimes we can feel busy but not always productive.
Occupied but not always present.
So this is your opportunity to return to a different way of being.
It's a way of being found throughout nature.
A quiet,
Powerful focus.
The kind that is embodied by the egret.
The egret it stands patiently in still waters.
It's not distracted by every movement or reacting to every ripple.
It is simply present.
Simply aware.
And when the moment arrives,
It focuses so completely.
So let's explore that same quality that is within ourselves.
And as the psychologist William James once said,
The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook.
Take a moment to reflect on those words.
Knowing what to overlook.
And knowing what deserves your attention.
Knowing where to place your energy.
Now gently bring your awareness back to your breath.
And just simply notice.
Inhale.
And a slow exhale.
Feel into the natural rhythm of your breath.
So let's move into a egret breath designed not to control your breathing.
But to train your attention.
As you inhale.
Silently say notice pause for a moment.
Settle.
And as you exhale.
Focus.
Inhale.
Notice.
Settle.
Exhale.
Focus.
And again,
Breathing in,
Notice.
Pause.
Exhale.
Focus.
Allow this rhythm to become natural.
Breathing in.
.
.
Notice.
Take a deep,
Deep breath.
Settle.
Breathing out.
Focus.
And as you continue,
Begin noticing sounds around you.
Sounds that are near.
The distant sounds.
Quiet sounds.
Just simply notice.
Breathe in.
Notice.
Pause.
Breathe out,
Focus.
And now notice the sensations within your body.
The temperature of the air.
The feeling of clothing against your skin.
Notice.
Poor moss.
Focus.
Notice your thoughts now.
Thoughts arriving.
Thoughts leaving the mind.
Plants.
Memories.
Ideas.
No need to follow them.
No need to resist them.
Just simply notice.
Breathe in.
Notice,
Pause.
Breathe out,
Focus.
Let's gently begin lowering your attention now.
So instead of noticing many things,
Just notice one thing.
And that is your breath.
Just the breath.
It's the movement of air entering.
The movement of air leaving.
One breath.
Than the next.
And the next.
If your mind wanders,
Just simply return.
Just like the egret returning its gaze to the water.
Again.
And again.
Patiently.
Calmly.
Steadily.
Now you see yourself walking beside a peaceful wetland at dawn.
The sky is painted with soft gold and silver.
The mist is drifting gently above the still water.
The air feels cool and fresh.
Each breath feels clean.
It's so refreshing.
Awakening.
And you now walk slowly toward the water's edge.
And with every step,
Your awareness is becoming clearer.
You are much more focused.
You are more present.
The world,
It feels quieter here.
The usual noise of life seems far away.
And ahead of you,
Standing gracefully in the shallow water.
You notice an egress.
Its white feathers are gluing softly in the beautiful morning light.
And it stands so completely still.
It's calm.
Balanced.
And hurried.
You stop a short distance away and simply observe.
The egret.
It does not appear tense.
Is not forcing itself to concentrate.
It is just so relaxed,
And yet… completely attentive.
Its attention is resting gently upon the water.
Nothing extra.
Nothing unnecessary.
Only what matters.
And as you continue watching.
The water around the egret remains calm.
Small ripples appear and disappear.
Yet,
The e-grit,
It remains steady.
Be patient.
Present.
Focused.
And as you watch.
You begin learning something important.
Focus is not about doing more.
It's really about allowing less to pull you away.
You sit comfortably beside the water now.
The egret is nearby.
And the surface of this beautiful wetland becomes almost mirror-like.
Still.
Clear.
Reflective.
So you look into the water.
And you can see clearly everything.
That can be seen when the surface is calm.
The sky is reflected.
The clouds.
The trees,
Every reflection becomes visible.
And you realize your mind is much the same.
When constantly stirred by destruction.
Clarity becomes difficult.
But when given stillness.
Clarity will naturally emerge.
So it is simply stillness.
Simply attention.
And simply presence.
Just take a few moments here.
Allow your waters to settle.
As the water grows even calmer,
You notice something resting at the bottom.
A golden light.
Soft.
Study.
Glowing beneath the surface.
Now this light,
It represents your intention.
The thing that matters most right now.
Not everything.
Just one thing.
One priority.
One purpose.
One meaningful direction.
And just allow that intention to emerge naturally.
Maybe it relates to your well-being,
A relationship.
A project.
You're welcome.
Maybe it's a dream.
But just simply.
Wish to move through your days with this focus and intention?
Just simply notice what arises.
Now the golden light is slowly rising through the water.
Becoming brighter.
Clearer.
And even more visible.
As it reaches the surface,
The egret turns towards it.
Its attention immediately settles upon the light.
It is not distracted.
Not divided.
But completely present.
Focused on the light.
And now you see yourself doing the same.
You allow your attention to rest upon your intentions.
Not any other intentions,
Not other priorities.
But just this one.
This one thing that is so deserving of your energy.
One thing that is deserving of your attention.
And one thing that is deserving your focus.
And feel how calm that is.
How simple.
How clear.
Your energy is no longer scattered.
Your attention moves in one direction.
And you can now feel your mind becoming organized.
Now it is steady.
Purposeful.
And focus.
Golden light is growing brighter still.
And with every breath it settles within your heart.
It's supporting you.
Guiding you.
Reminding you of what matters.
Just rest with this feeling.
Your mind is calm,
Clear and so focused.
You direct your attention with purpose and ease.
You choose what deserves your energy.
Like the egret,
I trust the power of patient focus.
Good.
And just breathe those words deep within you.
As though you are planting seeds within your awareness.
These are the seeds that will continue growing.
Long after this meditation ends.
Take a slow breath in.
And gently release.
Breathe in.
And breathe out.
And remember that.
Focus is not about perfection.
It's not about your thoughts.
But focus is a returning.
Again.
And again.
To what matters most for you.
It's waiting patiently.
Kindly.
Consistence.
And like the egret that is standing quietly in still waters.
May you carry this calm focus.
Into the hours and days ahead.
May your attention serve your deepest intentions.
And may your energy flow towards what truly matters.
Discover the quiet strength.
That comes from a clear and focused mind.
Wonderful.
Gently begin bringing awareness back to your surroundings.
Feel how refreshed you are.
How grounded.
Clear.
Focused.
And so ready for whatever comes next.
So roll your shoulders if that feels good.
Gently stretch.
Slowly open your eyes.
Welcome back.
To the present moment.
Namaste,
My friend.
