Day one,
Awareness.
The breath is the first thing you do when you enter this world.
It's the last thing you do when you leave it.
And it's the only system in your body that is automatic,
Yet it is under your control.
And it's under your control for a reason.
God gave us this tool.
We just have to know how to use it.
And most of us go through the entire day.
And maybe even our entire life without ever using it.
We are running.
We are reacting.
We are three steps ahead of where we are right now.
Today.
Let's slow down.
And just notice.
Create awareness.
Scripture reading today Psalm 4610.
Be still and know that I am God.
Does not say be productive.
It does not say,
Figure it out.
Just be still.
And that stillness know him.
That is where we are starting today,
In the stillness of the breath.
So I'd like you to find a comfortable position.
You can lie down if you'd like.
Where you can sit up with a nice tall spine.
Close your eyes or just gaze lightly off the tip of your nose.
And just begin to notice.
Notice your natural breath.
Don't try to control it.
Don't try to change it.
Just notice it.
The air coming in.
The air going out.
Notice that God gave you this breath before you even knew it.
Even thought about taking it.
Notice the pace and speed of your breath.
Is it fast?
Is it slow?
Feel it in your chest.
Or do you feel it into your belly?
We're not trying to judge.
We just want to notice.
And maybe your mind begins to wander.
Which it will.
When you notice your mind wandering.
Just come back to the breath.
Cool air entering.
And the warm air.
Letting it flow in through the nose.
And out through the nose.
Notice the quiet.
In this moment.
You don't have to do anything.
You don't have to fix anything or solve anything.
Just be here now.
Be still.
And know that God is with you.
Now just notice the body.
Are you holding any extra tension?
Maybe in your jaw.
Shoulders.
Just let it go on your next breath.
As we close out this session.
I'm just going to say a short little prayer,
And you can repeat.
Repeated after me.
Lord,
Thank you for this breath.
Thank you that before we had words,
Before we had worry.
Before we had anything.
You gave us this.
Today we just noticed it.
And in noticing it,
We noticed you.
Let us carry this with us today.
When the noise comes back.
When the pace picks up.
Remind us to return to this.
One breath.
Your presence.
Your peace.
Amen.
