When you sit quietly and watch yourself,
All kinds of things may come to the surface.
Do nothing about them.
Don't react to them.
As they have come,
So they will go by themselves.
All that matters is mindfulness.
Total awareness of oneself,
Or rather,
Of one's mind.
The mind must be open and quiet to see.
What we are trying to do here is to bring our mind into the right state for understanding what is real.
Keep quietly alert,
Inquiring into the real nature of yourself.
Do not try to be quiet.
Do not make being quiet into a task to be performed.
Relax.
There is nothing to practice.
To know yourself,
Be yourself.
Let your true nature emerge.
There is nothing to do.
Just be.
Do nothing.
Just be.
Keep very quiet.
And watch what comes to the surface of the mind.
Whenever a thought,
Or an emotion of desire or fear,
Comes to your mind,
Just turn away from it.
Now go within,
Into a state in which you are aware of yourself,
But not of the world.
Shifting the emphasis from the superficial,
Changeful person,
To the immutable and ever-present witness.
Letting thoughts flow and watching them.
The very observation slows down the mind until it stops altogether.
Don't get bored with peace.
Be in it.
Go deeper into it.
Look between the thoughts,
Rather than at the thoughts.
You need not stop thinking.
Just cease being interested.
Don't hold on.
That is all.
Leave your mind alone.
That is all.
Come to a state in which there is no knowledge,
Only being,
In which being itself is knowledge.
Forget the known.
But remember that you are the knower.
