Sometimes, it is difficult for us to turn off our brains with all of our stress, anxiety, and to-do lists. Join me for a guided meditation to help you relax into your sleep using a body scan. You can practice this while you are in bed to help you fall asleep or to give you a place of peace. As you may be drifting away to sleep there are no bells and the meditation will trail off allowing you to rest peacefully.

A Place of Peace,

Written and guided meditation by Laura Gallagher,

Placed in the middle.

I invite you to lay down,

Either on or in your bed or somewhere comfortable.

This meditation is good just before you close your eyes to sleep.

Imagine yourself in a place that you feel safe in.

A place that offers you solace.

A place that offers you peace and tranquility.

Notice all of your surroundings,

All of the sounds and smells.

Notice the temperature and the colors.

As you start to notice all of these things around you,

You start to become more aware of how relaxed your physical body starts to become.

Start to breathe deeply in this peaceful place you've imagined,

Allowing yourself to soften into stillness.

Allowing yourself to breathe with ease.

As you breathe with ease,

You've discovered a part of your emotional body that also desires this place of peace.

Focus your attention at the soles of your feet.

Give them a gentle wiggle,

Allowing them to softly let go.

Feel a glowing warmth surface from the inside out.

Breathe into your feet,

Welcoming a peaceful state of relaxation.

Move your attention now up to your lower part of your legs,

Your ankles,

Shins and calves.

Gently soften them,

Allowing them to let go.

Feel that glowing warmth from your feet travel up your lower legs.

Breathe into your lower legs,

Welcoming a peaceful state of relaxation.

Gently soften them,

Allowing them to let go.

Feel that glowing warmth from your lower legs travel up your thighs and glutes.

Breathe here,

Welcoming a peaceful state of relaxation.

From your upper legs,

Feel this warmth start to travel and move into your pelvis and hips.

Soften here.

Relax into your pelvis and hips,

Inviting a peaceful state of relaxation.

Moving up towards your chest and shoulders.

Gently start to soften and relax.

Feeling that glowing warmth surface on and around your chest and to the front and back of your shoulders.

Breathe into the space of your shoulders and chest,

Inviting a peaceful state of relaxation.

Let this glowing warmth start to travel down your arms,

Swirling at your fingertips.

Let your arms relax by giving your fingers a little bit of a wiggle.

Moving down your arms and out your fingertips,

Inviting a peaceful state of relaxation.

This glowing warmth moving up past your neck and into your jaw.

Let your jaw release by simply parting your lips.

Moving into your neck and jaw,

Inviting a peaceful state of relaxation.

Gently soften your eyes and your forehead.

Feeling the warmth radiate and surround the space of your face.

Breathe into your forehead,

Inviting a peaceful state of relaxation.

Fully relaxed and peaceful.

Let yourself sink even further into stillness.

Your body full of warmth,

Light and ease.

There is nothing else you need to do but breathe here in this peaceful state of relaxation.

I found the teacher’s voice very soothing and the pacing comfortable. I appreciated filling my body with light. I might have preferred at the end of cue like “I leave you now.” I will definitely bookmark. Thank you for offering this.
