Lesson 1

What Works?

What is motivation? A clear definition can be elusive. Here's a more applicable question: how will we know when motivation is "working" for us? We'll start with a powerful ACT tool to help guide us through the course. This tool will help us set some goals, and understand what takes us away from them. We'll use the tool to decipher what helps and what hinders our motivation.

Lesson 2

Dopamine, Avoidance, And Habits

A surprising connection to dopamine shines a light on avoidance. We'll get to know our nervous system better to understand why avoidance is such a struggle, and what we can do about it. We'll continue to use our "Choice Point" exercise to understand our "towards" and "away" behaviors.

Lesson 3

Radical Rethink

How does motivation work? Not how we've been taught! We can't wait for it, argue with it, or entice it with treats ... so what do we do? We'll unlearn some myths about motivation that leave us disempowered. This radical re-think puts us back in the driver's seat.

Today is all about getting our fight energy back - we are bigger and stronger than we know, and we have everything in us that we need to conquer our goals - no matter how big they are, too.

Thank you! I very much enjoyed this course, particularly the “science” behind motivation. I never thought that I was reinforcing negative behavior.

My eyes were opened and my assumptions challenged—in a great way—several times in the course. I feel I have a whole new understanding of motivation and some great tools to use instead of waiting for inspiration to strike. I wish I’d known these things as a grad student!!
