Meet your Teacher

Clay is a psychotherapist, research aficionado, and lifelong night owl. Their practice specializes in trauma recovery, mindfulness, somatics, and neurodiversity. Their passion is promoting wellbeing through befriending: developing kindness and understanding towards our nervous systems, thoughts, desires, bodies, stories, and ourselves. They practice an eclectic and affirming blend of ACT, MBSR, DBT, CBT, and EMDR.

I really enjoyed this course. Not only did I learn scientific knowledge about why night owls are night owls, but also a plan of action to support that. It feels good to accept being a night owl without judgement from myself. The teacher of this course has a lovely, calming voice and a very practical way of delivering knowledge that makes you feel like you are listening to a friend. I’m looking to more from them.

For decades I felt as though I was living in the wrong time zone because of my struggles with sleeping/waking. I felt ashamed that I struggled to be a good ‘morning person’, and that I could easily sleep well into the late afternoon before getting up. Clay’s course clarified the reasons for my struggles with sleep/wakefulness. Through clear, biologically based explanations, a gentle voice and a dash of quirky humour, Clay set my mind at ease. She provided the basis for approaching my sleep-issues with a sense of confidence and control. No more shame!…well, much less of it anyway. Thank you, Clay. A follow up course would be welcomed.

If you are a night owl, you need this course!! Interestingly, many of the suggestions for morning preparation are familiar for those with brain injury, such as post stroke, multiple sclerosis, Covid recovery and other chronic conditions that require planning, which is not our forte! I can’t express strongly enough how fantastic Clay is at laying this out and explaining that we aren’t lazy or crazy. I’m waiting for part 2!!

Clay is a fountain of information. I am a night owl and have been trying to fit into the daytime world for 60 years.
