Liz Doyle,
The Positive Change Coach here.
I'm about to share with you an exercise that will help you to calm your mind and your nervous system.
This can help with general feelings of anxiety and is especially good for those times when cravings for food or drink that doesn't serve or support you come knocking on your door.
This is called left nostril breathing.
When you need to calm down,
When your mind is racing and maybe if you can't sleep and you're thinking of getting up and raiding the fridge.
So let's try it now.
Block off your right nostril by putting gentle pressure on the side of the nostril with your right thumb.
Be sure to keep the rest of your fingers straight and pointing up towards the sky.
The fingers act like antennae for the divine energy that surrounds us all.
The fingertips are about the height of your eyebrows and just keep your elbows relaxed at the sides.
Now if it's safe for you to do so,
You can close your eyes.
With a long,
Slow,
Deep breath,
Gently inhale through your left nostril.
Then just as gently,
Exhale long and slowly and completely,
Again through the left nostril.
Allow the breath to relax your body,
Feeling the cool breath bringing new life into your body.
We can relax even deeper with each exhale as we breathe out all the tension and all the stress in our bodies.
I will now set a timer for three minutes for us to do this together.
Okay,
Let us begin.
Press your shoulders as you're breathing in through the left nostril and out through the left nostril.
Focus on the in-breath and now the out-breath.
In and out.
In and out.
And in and out.
Okay,
That's our three minutes.
How do you feel after that?
Do let me know.
That's my personal favorite,
To be honest.
It's simple and I feel very mindful when I'm doing it.
So this is number one of the three exercises and I will be sharing the other one in a separate recording.
In the meantime,
I am sending you much love.
