Use this short practice to get into the right state for a Tarot or Oracle reading and connect with your cards, asking them to work with you. Become open to the wisdom they have to share with you whilst staying aware of your own internal reactions. There is no final bell on this practice, allowing you to stay in that state and move straight into your reading.

So,

Taking your cards in your hand,

Settle into your space now,

As you would ordinarily prepare for meditation.

So if you can,

Try to be somewhere where you'll be left in peace for the next few minutes,

And you might be sitting in a relaxed yet alert manner,

Making any little adjustments that you need to,

To be comfortable.

And there may be sounds in your environment,

Outside the room,

Or even inside the room.

So just be aware of these sounds,

Aware that they exist,

But are not at the centre of your focus.

And so just allow them to drift on by.

And you may also be aware of thoughts,

Finding their way in and out of your head,

And that's okay.

Just like the sound,

Being aware that they exist,

But they don't need to be the object of your attention right now.

And if you have brought with you anything,

Any energy or anything at all that you don't want or need for this moment in time,

You can just invite it gently to step aside,

Knowing that if ever you need it back,

And it's appropriate,

It will always be within your reach.

So tuning into your breath,

Just being aware of your breathing,

And aware of your body,

Your posture,

Any sensation,

Just aware,

Without detaching any values or judgement.

Allowing yourself to breathe just as deeply and as comfortably as is right for you.

And really coming now into this moment,

In the space where you are,

In your own body,

From your heart and mind,

With clarity and intention.

Aware of the cards in your hand.

Aware of the cards in your hand.

And just allowing yourself now to be open to the card,

To their feel in your hand,

To your own reactions as you connect now with the card.

How do you feel?

In your body?

In your emotions?

Just notice where in your body you react to the cards.

And notice any thoughts which arise now as you build this connection with the cards.

A connection which you can continue to nurture for just as long as you like.

Fully in yourself,

Connecting with the cards.

And finding now your intention in creating this connection with the tarot.

So you might intend to be open to guidance,

Insight and understanding,

Or to wisdom or intuition.

Or you might have another intention which has brought you to this point.

Set your intention now,

Really bringing it into focus.

And imagine that you are communicating that intention to the cards.

And if you like,

You can ask your cards now,

If they are willing to work with you,

So that you can receive what you need.
