Hello,
My name is Lou Redmond and I thank you so much for choosing to practice with me today.
The inspiration for today's meditation is kind of funny,
It's a little superficial,
I'll explain.
I recently decided to change my Instagram bio and I was thinking about,
Well,
What do I call myself?
This has always been a struggle when I do a few different things.
There's something that I like to delineate or discern when talking about being a meditation teacher and although,
Yes,
I am a meditation teacher,
I sometimes like to look at myself more so as a creator,
Someone who creates meditation,
Who brings inspiring or thoughtful or just what feels true for me to create,
Just like a potter would create something that they're inspired or a musician would create a song that they're inspired by.
I tend to find inspiration through my life and the way that I process it,
The way that I work through it is through creating a meditation.
And so I decided to call myself,
At least on my Instagram,
A meditation artist because that's what the way that I look at this as an art.
This is something that I deeply love and I use the field of my life and of the things coming in as the place where I find my ideas and inspiration.
And so I had thought to just check out what does the hashtag for meditation artists look like and I found a lot of pictures.
And I guess that makes sense.
When we hear that word artist,
We automatically think of painting and we automatically think of one specific type of art.
But the real purpose in me sharing this is that I believe that deep down that we all have some art.
We all have some gift that is coming from us that is an act of creation to this world.
Being creative is to simply bring into this world something that was not there before.
And so we're all artists because that's what an artist does.
An artist creates.
An artist is inspired and brings some of that inspiration to others so it touches others.
And so the purpose of today is to help us to connect deeper with that creative spark within us.
Whether we would call ourselves creative or not.
We can find this essence in so much of what we do.
That's why there's like a million books that are like the art of this,
The art of that,
The art of this.
Is that we can get a sense that there is an art which is just a new way,
A beauty.
When we think of art I really think of that word beauty.
And we're going to use this idea of putting ourselves in the way of beauty as if you've read the book Wild by Cheryl Strayed she would talk about her mom.
But we're going to use this putting ourselves in the way of beauty to see if we can allow ourselves to find the artist within.
And so with that go ahead and close down your eyes and begin to allow yourself to get comfortable in your body.
Any movements that need to be taken.
Kind of moving into me just talking a little bit to kind of moving a little inwards to trying to hear more what's going to come from the inside and not necessarily what I'm saying but what starts to bubble up inside of you.
So relaxing shoulders and feeling really heavy and supported.
And with that connection feeling also that gentle lift of your chest up towards the ceiling.
Feeling a lengthening in the back of your neck.
Coming to this clear and rooted posture.
Taking in your breath to continue to move into that clarity to infuse your body as the oxygen comes in.
And releasing and relaxing with each breath out.
Maybe you note the breath as you're breathing in saying breathing in and breathing out.
Or maybe you just feel the breath for a few moments at the space that you like to feel it in your body or through your nose.
And then together we're just going to take a gentle but conscious breath in and breath out.
And so I'd like you to bring your awareness to the space between your eyebrows,
Your mind's eye,
Your third eye center.
And start to soften this area and start to move the energy of your body up into your third eye.
So maybe you feel like you're taking the energy from the ground moving up your spine and shooting out your forehead almost like it's a shining light ray.
Or maybe something feels true for you to take the energy from up top and almost like you're taking in the energy through your third eye down your body.
Inviting wherever you're feeling the energy flow,
Inviting the spark of creativity.
Almost as if the universe was charging you up with its creative force.
And creation's always creating.
The universe is expanding as we speak.
So feel your role,
Feel that energy pour through your body.
And I like to use the metaphor of us being the faucet that the water moves through.
And so that's kind of the idea of tapping into our inner artist,
Is allowing ourselves to be that faucet that the energy of life moves through.
And sometimes it turns off,
Sometimes it gets blocked.
But remember it's not really off.
We just have to work on turning it on.
That energy inside is always pouring through and our meditation practice can help us to connect with it.
And so asking yourself what is blocking you from allowing this to flow through your life?
Maybe you said I'm not creative or I'm not right brained,
I'm analytical,
Not good at anything.
You were created.
You are in essence creative.
You create with each word,
Each thought,
Each intention.
And so if you can feel the energy coming into your body,
Is there anywhere in the body that you feel it gets blocked?
Maybe it's the chest or the throat,
Stomach.
Maybe you feel a block or maybe you're just feeling that flow right now.
And we're going to continue to work with the energy centers of our body.
Just to really get the energy moving up and down.
And so I'd like you to this time imagine that the energy starts to come in through your third eye and as you breathe in it moves down the back of your spine to your root.
And as you breathe out,
Feel the energy move from the base of your spine up towards the crown of your head.
And almost has that gentle cow and cat feel to it if you have practiced yoga.
And follow this breath for a few rounds,
Seeing if you can sense the energy coming down on the inhale and coming up on the exhale.
And I'd like you to stop this energy,
Or not really stop it,
But center the energy at the sacral chakra.
And so just a bit below your belly button,
Kind of above or behind the genital area,
But feeling it more so in your spine than in the front.
So really trying to feel it in the back body.
And then as you breathe,
If you'd like to bring in that color,
Right,
If you want to use the chakral system and using the color of it,
Maybe you feel some orange energy starting to grow and expand from your sacral center.
And then we're going to set some intentions here to receive that creative spirit.
And so you're welcome to repeat silently,
You're welcome to just listen.
I am a creative force for good.
My beauty is undeniable.
My art is an expression of my beauty.
My beauty is forever.
I am a creative force for good.
My beauty is undeniable.
My art is an expression of my beauty.
My beauty is forever.
Be repeating one that felt connected for you.
And as you do this,
Feel the blockages start to melt away,
Almost as if that sacral energy was just starting to fuse your body and ease your blocks to that creative spirit moving through.
And allowing yourself to be the conduit for this energy that you were born to be.
And then together,
Let's take a full breath in and a full breath out.
And one way to allow our creativity and our artistry to show up in our lives is to put ourselves in the way of beauty.
As I mentioned earlier,
She read the book Wild by Cheryl Schreid.
She says something that her mom would say to her.
There's always a sunrise and always a sunset.
And it's up to you to choose to be there for it.
Put yourself in the way of beauty.
Beauty reflects beauty.
So as we take in,
Which is beautiful,
It inspires our own beauty.
And that is the best of ourselves.
That is our art,
Is how we show up in this world.
And so letting go of if you're still on your sacral center or that energy and just allowing yourself to move more into a little guided imagery.
And we're going to use this image of a sunset to further allow our body and our spirit to experience beauty,
To experience this creative energy.
And so imagine in your mind's eye a sunset.
Maybe it's one you've been to.
Maybe it's just a beautiful one that's coming to mind.
Make it the most pretty sunset that you've ever seen.
Multi-colored,
Multi-layered,
Vibrant,
Ecstatic.
Taking the sun's rays and filling your whole body.
Beauty also begets gratitude because there's a reverence that takes place.
And so as you're taking in this beauty,
Revering this gift the earth has to share or the sun has to share with the earth,
I'd like you to find gratitude for another beautiful thing that this earth has provided you with.
Family and experience,
A moment of grace.
Send that appreciation outwards.
And then letting that go.
And together let's take a full breath in and breath out.
And so we've created a good amount of energy so far.
And now it's time to really bring this energy into our lives in a new way.
We are all creative.
We can all be the artist of our life.
We just need to surrender to this beingness.
And so I'd like you to imagine a blank canvas in the form of a screen.
And so kind of if you're still in your mind's eye,
Almost like you're watching like a movie.
I want you to see yourself on this screen.
Right,
Just you.
Maybe you see yourself in a place that you know.
Or maybe you're just going to see just your body.
And can you view your presence like a work of art?
Just as we go to a movie is to view art and to view beauty.
Can you see the beauty that is on the screen that is you?
And noticing what comes up as you do this.
Maybe there's resistance.
Maybe there's joy.
Being with whatever is there.
And then looking at yourself on the screen and repeating,
Sending this energy out as you look silently to yourself.
Or maybe you're saying it out loud.
You are so beautiful.
Your light shines brighter than you can see.
You are a gift to this world.
Thank you for being who you are.
You are so beautiful.
Your light shines brighter than you can see.
You are a gift to this world.
Thank you for being who you are.
And now using this creative force,
This natural beauty,
I want you to fill this screen with an example of you being an artist in your life.
And as an artist,
That means you get to create an ideal vision for your life here.
And so in this screen,
What is that future present that you would like to imagine?
Seeing peace,
Seeing an accomplishment,
Seeing yourself aligned with your highest self,
Seeing yourself happy.
Watch this on the screen.
And then maybe adding,
If it's not there,
Seeing yourself showing up as an artist in your life in a new way.
Maybe it's with your family,
Finding new ways to relate,
New conversations.
Maybe it's a relationship or maybe it's to society.
Maybe it is that creative endeavor that's whispering to you to lean into it,
To come back to it.
Create whatever it is on the screen.
And then imagine yourself going into the screen,
Living it as it were right now.
You are actualizing on this creative force moving through you.
Feel what that feels like.
And then go ahead and step back out,
Being the observer again,
Watching this screen that you created,
This vision that you created.
And thank this screen for what it helped to show you.
And then let go of the visualization and come back into your body.
Come back to that energy that's swirling in your body right now,
Acknowledging that what you saw on that screen can be brought into this world.
And so asking yourself,
How do you want to leave here today and bring beauty into your world?
Maybe something comes to mind,
Maybe it doesn't,
And that's okay.
We're going to end with another few affirmations from before.
I am a creative force for good.
My beauty is undeniable.
My art is an expression of my beauty.
My beauty is forever.
And when you feel complete,
You can gently begin to open your eyes,
Coming back into your room.
Thank you again for practicing with me.
And I really hope that you go out into this world and walk through it like the expression of incredible beauty that you are.
Sending you so much love as always.
Namaste.

That was beautiful, Lou. I struggle being a business analyst all day and trying to be an artist in my spare time. I now see that it's the same me, and that I actually am creative all the time, even in my left-brain job.
