Did you know that prayer is a form of therapy?
Dr.
Joseph Murphy says prayer therapy is sometimes referred to as mental treatment.
Another term is scientific prayer.
This is really the combined function of the conscious and subconscious mind.
Being specifically directed.
Towards a certain idea,
Plan or experience.
Feeling and faith to this and you have pre-therapy.
So let's put this into practice now.
In a comfortable position.
Relax your eyes.
And allow your breathing to settle.
As your body relaxes.
Your attention naturally begins to turn inward.
And so this is a beautiful and welcomed time.
To become more receptive.
To the suggestions you wish to offer your subconscious mind.
The next step is to become clear about what you wish to experience.
So rather than focusing on what you don't want,
Gently bring your attention.
To the positive experience you would like to cultivate.
Is it peace?
Confidence.
Ealing harmonious relationships.
Love?
Or something else.
Allow yourself to become clear about the quality of life.
You are inviting in.
The next step is to create a statement that is solution-based,
And this will form the words of the prayer.
Use simple affirmative statements in present time where the language is solution-based.
So instead of saying,
I don't want to feel anxious,
Consider it instead.
I am.
More peaceful.
And trusting in life or I choose to welcome in love and joy into my body,
Into my mind,
Into my life.
The next step is to gently repeat this prayer with feeling.
So now,
Do just that.
Repeat your chosen statement.
Slowly letting the words settle within you.
There's no need to force anything or to strive to create a particular emotion.
All you're doing is simply giving your attention to the meaning of the word.
And then.
.
.
Allow yourself to become receptive.
To the opening of this experience.
Final step,
Another very important one,
Is to release.
And trust.
Having offered your prayer,
Allow the words to become quiet.
Rest for a few moments in the feeling of what you have invited into your awareness.
Then,
Gently release the practice.
Returning to your day with an openness to the thoughts.
Choices.
And opportunity.
That are supporting your intentions.
The purpose of pre-therapy is to direct the mind towards the experiences and qualities we wish to nurture.
And through the consistent practice of thinking,
Speaking and responding.
In alignment with our intention.
We thereby create new patterns within.
Which naturally unfold throughout our life.
