Gratitude Bathing

Par Fred Wood

Commencer Jour 1
Ce que vous apprendrez
Is it possible to alleviate depressive symptoms by listening to experiences of gratitude? Can the intrinsically uplifting nature of gratitude shift perspective and realign how we see our lives? In this four-part series, you will hear authentic, life-changing stories of gratitude. Through journaling, letter writing, and reflection, gratitude has mended relationships, offered new insights, and transformed lives. You are invited to wade into these experiences and experience for yourself the potential healing powers of bathing in gratitude.

For the past 12 years, Professor Wood has taught a college course called "The Pursuit of Happiness." One assignment asks students to write in a journal every day for eight weeks, recording three things for which they are grateful. In addition, they write five letters of gratitude and a two-page reflection on the experience. Now, and with student...

Leçon 1
Where We Are Now
In this lesson, listeners are introduced to a series of gratitude-related experiences. First, though, they are asked to check in on themselves and see how they feel, and to give that a number between 1 and 10. Stories follow.
Leçon 2
Where We Have Been
Lesson two continues with an explanation of the Gratitude assignment college students are asked to complete, with examples. These are very personal stories that reveal the depth of emotion associated with gratitude work.
Leçon 3
Where We Might Go
The stories continue in this chapter and we review the harm in suppressing emotion and the benefits of allowing its release. As listeners work their way through the chapters, they are encouraged to embrace whatever emotion arises and to allow its full expression. The vehicle for this release is exposure to student letters, journals, and reflections.
Leçon 4
Where Possibilities Are Found
The insight shared in this chapter bears repeating here. Somewhere in the despair of understanding our impermanence, the essence of gratitude is born. We can be thankful we are here now. The stories in this final lesson illustrate some student epiphanies surrounding gratitude work.

Thank you, Fred--from me and from all the people who will benefit from this change in me. And who knows? I believe that the blessings will spread even further than that. You are making the world a better place!

Thank you Fred. Listening to the stories have had a positive effect on me - and have encouraged me to give gratitude journaling a go, again. I have also been inspired to write some gratitude letters after listening to the beneficial experiences of your students. 🌺

It's definitely worth taking this course just for the stories you share. For several years now, I've established the habit of sending thank-you notes to the people I love, for reasons both small and large. I think it's time to look more for gratitude in the little things that happen in everyday life. Thank you so much for reminding us of the power of gratitude.

Soothing. Just what I needed, and I plan to implement a gratitude practice after this. The letter writing sounds lovely as well. I’ve thought of doing this many times, and hearing people’s stories and experiences was inspiring. Thank you for your work.

Very inspiring 🙏 Blessings of gratitude🙏 I write in a journal every day and make sure I am grateful for three things, although I have never written a letter and gave it to anyone, but I am going to start writing letters to the most amazing people I know, and let them know how amazing they really are!🙏
