Hello.
My name is Eden,
And I am a meditation guide.
A Reiki master teacher,
And a licensed therapist.
And today we're going to be exploring one of EMDR's classic resourcing tools.
And all of these resourcing tools exist to help you cope and self-regulate.
When you notice that you could use that in your daily living.
Perhaps as you wait in line.
Maybe you just broke a glass.
Your cell phone dies just in these moments where a bit of frustration or disturbance can arise in our systems.
And these different resourcing tools just help us understand what coping mechanisms work for us that are accessible to us at any time.
And everyone's a little different,
So knowing that if one resourcing tool doesn't land for you.
.
.
You can just explore another one.
All of that is great information to just get to know yourself and your needs a little bit more.
And so we welcome that inner experiment in.
And today we explore a very simple resourcing tool commonly known as the angel hug.
Or the butterfly technique.
And so wherever you are,
Just starting to find a bit of stillness.
Tapping into the orientation of your physical body,
Finding an even taller spine.
And your eyes can stay open or drift closed.
And just starting to notice your breath for a moment here.
Where is the breath traveling to in the body?
Can you ask it to travel a little bit deeper,
A little bit wider?
Slowing the exhales.
And gently letting a bit of the day fall away as you tune into your physicality.
A little more overtly.
The mind moves into the body.
And this angel hug or butterfly technique is just a simple body positioning.
So we'll go ahead and bring the hands out in front of you,
Palms facing your face.
And crossing at the wrists.
And hooking the thumbs together,
Making this butterfly shape.
And then just letting the palms rest.
On the chest.
And the wings of the butterfly,
The fingertips,
The palms,
They rest below the collarbone.
And here you can just gently start to massage your upper chest.
Noticing the bone,
Where it becomes muscle.
That shift between hard and soft in the body.
Knowing it's all divinely created,
It's all important in its own way.
And just massaging this area of the body,
Thumbs still gently locked together.
Continuing to breathe nice and low and slow.
Letting this tiny bit of physical movement in the body move the mind into the body even more.
And maybe on purpose or maybe without even noticing,
Your mind has released even more of the day.
Even more of any activation that might have been moving through you.
Whether from a moment that's still here or a memory of one.
Just taking three more breaths on purpose right here,
Continuing to gently massage this area of the body.
And with that next exhale,
You can gently let the hands go.
Taking a moment here in your stillness again.
To catalog any gentle shifts that have happened in your body,
In your mind,
In your spirit.
What can you notice has shifted?
Since you began this angel hug,
This butterfly technique.
No matter how small,
Can you let yourself notice a shift?
And knowing this shift is accessible to you whenever you might need it by utilizing this simple technique.
And just letting this simple technique anchor within your mind and your body somewhere.
So that you can remember to reach for it more often.
Remembering that sometimes it will work.
Sometimes you'll forget to use it.
And sometimes it might not work as you had hoped.
All of that is okay.
All of that is just good information to continue to get to know yourself.
And your needs.
Trusting yourself in this beautiful exploratory process and using this butterfly technique whenever you need.
So letting the eyes gently open if they were closed,
Letting them wander around your space,
Gently reorienting.
Few more breaths in and out before you go on with your day.
Welcome back.
And Be well.
