The Butterfly Technique, sometimes called the Angel Hug, is a simple EMDR resourcing technique that uses gentle, alternating touch as a form of bilateral stimulation. This physiological connection with yourself can offer an accessible anchor during moments of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or emotional activation. Through mindful touch, body awareness, and intentional presence, this practice invites you to notice what helps your nervous system settle while coming back to the now. It can be used as a grounding and self-regulation tool as you explore the coping resources that feel most supportive for you. Ideal for EMDR resourcing, bilateral stimulation, trauma-informed mindfulness, anxiety relief, grounding, nervous system regulation, somatic awareness, emotional regulation, self-soothing, and present-moment awareness.
