Body as Compass,
A meditation for decision making.
Welcome to this guided meditation to help you make a decision.
Today,
We're going to focus on discovering what you desire and how you feel about these desires and this choice from the perspective of the mind,
The heart,
And the pelvic floor.
When I am trying to decide what to do,
I like to think of myself as having three votes.
The mind honors my experience,
What I know to be true,
What others may think,
And potential dangers.
The heart honors my emotions,
How I feel,
What I like,
And what would best serve my ability to connect with others.
The pelvic floor responds to what is interesting,
Creative,
Pleasurable,
And promotes growth,
And it is also very sensitive to what feels safe or unsafe.
These three sources of wisdom in your body may have different opinions about what we should do,
And that's okay.
This meditation is simply about listening to the mind and the body and learning a little bit more about what we want,
What we think,
And how we feel.
You may not be aware of the importance of the heart,
But you may be aware of the importance of the mind.
You may not make a decision today,
But I'm hoping you get a little bit closer to clarity as you figure out how you feel about the choice that's facing you.
Please take a comfortable position for your meditation if you haven't already.
Take a few deep breaths,
Noticing the ground beneath your body supporting you.
What you feel right now is a baseline.
What sensations do you notice in your body?
How is the rhythm of your breath?
Take a moment to remind yourself that you are safe right now in the present.
That you are enough,
Exactly as you are.
That you have a right to all your thoughts and feelings,
Even if they conflict with each other.
Notice how it feels in your body to acknowledge these things.
Whatever you feel about this decision is okay.
No one is here to judge you,
And part of this practice is doing our best not to judge ourselves either.
We're going to frame this decision in two ways.
The first is the decision to stay the same.
To not change anything,
To keep to the status quo as much as possible.
If you're deciding between two options for change,
This would be the less risky of the two.
The more familiar,
The easier of the two choices.
If you have three choices or more,
There will be space for that at the end of this meditation.
The second way that we'll frame the choice will be the choice to change.
This would be the decision that will cause more upheaval in your life,
That may involve some risk,
Learning some new things,
Doing things in a different way.
Now,
Take another deep breath and consider the first choice.
The safer,
More familiar option.
Offer this option to your mind.
Think of the mind as being located right in the center of your brain,
At the level of the space between your eyebrows.
Imagine yourself having already made this safer choice,
Going through your life with this easier,
Less risky option.
Notice what your mind says or what images arise,
Or how you feel around your head.
Sometimes there is a clear yes or no here,
And sometimes not.
Just notice what comes up without judgment.
Now,
Offer this option to the space of your energetic heart,
Which is located right in the center of your chest.
Offer your heart this first choice,
This easier,
More familiar option.
Imagine yourself having already made this choice.
Does this space around your heart open or contract?
Do you notice a clear yes or no,
Or do other words,
Sensations,
Or emotions arise?
Notice everything without judgment.
Now,
We'll move down to the pelvic floor,
The area around the genitals at the very bottom of the pelvis.
Allow your breath to move nice and deep down into your belly,
So this area is soft.
Now,
Offer your first option to the pelvic floor.
When you imagine yourself making this safer choice,
Do you feel the muscles contract or relax?
Does the blood flow change in some way?
Does your breath change?
What else happens?
Notice without judgment.
Now,
Let's consider your second option,
The option for change.
This is the riskier,
Less familiar option of the two.
Visualize yourself having already chosen this path.
Offer this thought to your mind.
What arises here?
Now,
Continue to visualize yourself having chosen this riskier path,
This option for change.
Offer this to your heart.
What do you feel in your chest when you think about this option?
Is there opening or closing?
What sensations or images or thoughts arise?
What do you feel in your heart?
Now,
We'll move down to the pelvic floor.
Notice how it feels.
And then offer the thought of making this second choice to the pelvic floor muscles.
When you think about making this change,
Do they shift,
Move,
Contract,
Or relax in some way?
What else arises?
Notice how that feels.
Again,
I like to think of these three locations of wisdom in my body as each having a vote.
Just because we get a yes or a no from one or the other doesn't have to mean our decision is made.
We want to weigh the information from each of these places so that we can learn a little bit more about how we feel about these decisions.
You don't have to make your choice today.
If you have further options you would like to offer to your body,
Feel free to go through the process again,
Offering a new choice to each of these three places and listening for whatever arises.
Take your time to listen to your body without judgment and without any pressure to make a decision right now.
Spend as long as you like in this meditation and feel free to return to it more than once if you'd like.
When your time here feels complete to you,
Simply thank your body for talking to you.
Enjoy the rest of your day and best of luck with your decision.
